**Position Information**:
This is a **Department Promotional exam **open only to current eligible employees of the **Department of Human Services.**

**Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards**:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the social or behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a closely related field AND two (2) years of management level experience in a multi-divisional public, private or nonprofit social services agency of which, one year (1) year of experience must have been equivalent to a Human Services Program Director. Experience related to planning, evaluating, administering and managing a variety of responsibilities or operations requiring large expenditure of funds is preferred.

**Substitution**: Completion of a graduate degree in social or behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Possession of a valid Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator's License and the ability to maintain proof of vehicle liability insurance is required.

Job Description for Assistant Director of Human Services

**Examinations**:
**Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled dates/times/locations without exception**.**

Oral Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

**Additional Information**:
Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) applicants are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit a bilingual (English/Spanish) certificate before the final filing deadline. Applicants who wish to be considered for bilingual employment must submit a bilingual certificate issued by the Kern County Human Resources Division or its authorized agent, Bakersfield College.

Employees who occupy positions designated as bilingual are paid dependent upon the required level of proficiency.
