**Communications Assistant**

**Purpose**:To provide day-to-day communications support to and collaboration with the Head of
Communications & Storytelling. Assist with raising public and employee awareness of events, programs, services and goals of the District, and assist with adding to the story and value of the community of Arlington Heights School District 25.

**Description**: Arlington Heights School District 25 is seeking a strategic, creative, technology-savvy Communications Specialist to support all aspects of the District’s internal and external communications efforts.

**Reports to**: Head of Communications & Storytelling

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree (with major or minor in the field of communications preferred)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to understand and anticipate communication needs of a diverse community and take initiative to find creative and integrated solutions to meet them
- Demonstrated Skills in website content management systems
- Demonstrated Skills in social media management
- Demonstrated Skills in current technologies used in communication, including video production and editing, desktop publishing and photo editing
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently and work under deadlines
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to build collaborative relationships.
- Ability to work successfully as a member of a team or work group
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new duties and technologies as required

**Performance Responsibilities**:

- Collaborate with the Head of Communications & Storytelling to align the work of the department to the mission, vision and goals of the District’s strategic plan
- Provide day-to-day management of the District’s family of websites, ensuring content is current, accurate and visually appealing.
- Analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of communication efforts and makes suggestions for improvement and growth
- Assists in telling the story of Arlington Heights School District 25.
- Stays current with the best practices of the public relations and communications profession.
- Provide support to district staff assigned to maintain school websites and individual pages.
- Help manage the District’s social media accounts, e-newsletters, and other communication platforms.
- Help with video/audio/graphic creation and editing.
- Support building-level administrators and staff on social media and other communications platforms.
- Review and update communications to ensure adherence to brand guidelines.
- Develop, recommend, and manage an annual communications calendar
- Update or develop communication materials including brochures, reports and other publications
- Supports Human Resources on internal communications, recruiting and events
- Attends Board of Education meetings and other meetings as requested by the Head of Communications & Storytelling
- Assures compliance with applicable laws, regulations and district policy regarding transparency, the disclosure of public information and accountability
- Uses independent judgment when actively monitoring and integrating all forms of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) to support and promote news, activities and achievements throughout Arlington Heights School District 25.
- Recommend new forms of emerging social media that would provide appropriate outlets for district news, staying connected to evolving digital monitoring and measurement technologies.
- Operates a variety of video and audio equipment for the purpose of producing content.
- Videotapes meetings, training classes, etc. (e.g. graduation, professional development meetings, awards ceremonies, etc.) for the purpose of developing materials suitable for publication.
- Assist school personnel and school organizations in planning and publicizing school-related events or activities
- Proofread communications.

**Other Functions**:Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include knowledge of public relations policies and procedures and community resources; working knowledge of electronics and personal computers; basic graphic design techniques; concepts of television video production; and English grammar and composition.

Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work environment and/or priorities; working within time constraints; communicating with diverse groups; working as part of a team; working with multiple projects; and working independently.
