**Position Duties/Responsibilities**:
The Dean of Student Advocacy & Support reports to the Senior Vice President of Student Affairs and works closely with other direct reports to the Vice President. This person serves as the primary advocate for students and for campus life and engagement activities and planning. The dean is responsible for the following job functions:

- Serve as the #2 student affairs professional for the university.
- Provide guidance, oversight, and supervision of select student affairs departments including Student Engagement and Leadership, Student Life, Residence Life, Student Union Programs, Upward Board, and Cowgirl Kickers. Oversight may evolve as a result of organization.
- Serve as the chief conduct and academic integrity administrator for the university.
- Develop and facilitate programs for the student community centered on student advocacy, accountability, and awareness.
- Administer annual (third-party) prevention and awareness training for students in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Generally oversee Homecoming activities for students.
- Generally respond to the needs of students when assigned.
- Serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the university, specializing in Title IX matters solely involving students.
- Assist with the implementation of Orientation 101 requirements.
- Ensure policies and practices of reporting units assure fair and equitable student treatment.
- Assist with evaluating, creating, and updating campus policies applicable to the student community.
- Verify that student services offered at McNeese are effective, innovative, proactive, anticipatory and responsive to student and community requirements with periodic program, service, procedures and policies evaluations.
- Provide vision and guidance for traditional student engagement programs such as Freshman Convocation, Welcome Week, and Late Night Breakfast.
- Explore innovative practices to allow the university to remain in line with field trends and best practices.
- Work with team members to establish civic-centered student initiates that enhance the educational experience while furthering the brand of McNeese.
- Network with campus professionals and student organizations to ensure there is awareness of campus resources and support services.
- Network with peer professionals off campus.
- Serve as a co-advisor to Student Government Association.
- Compile assessment data and reports for reporting units.
- Serve on university committees as assigned.
- Participate in professional development activities on and off campus to maintain a satisfactory knowledge base.
- Other duties as assigned by supervision

**Required/Preferred Qualifications**:
Required:

- Master’s Degree in education, educational leadership, student affairs, higher education, or other applicable field from an accredited institution
- At least five years of professional experience in related work
- Previous experience working in a higher education setting
- Experience with budget management
- Experience working in a student services or student affairs office
- Supervision experience
- Familiarity with relevant legal and governance issues at the campus, local, state, and federal levels
- Knowledge of student development theory
- Ability to utilize computer software to draft professional correspondence and other published works associated with the position
- Experience working with diverse populations in a state university or similar setting
- Evidence of an energetic, student-centered approach to program development and delivery
- Availability to provide 24/7 response to student situations (may be remote responses when applicable)
- Ability to work evenings and weekends during fall/spring semesters with prior notice

Preferred:

- Doctorate Degree with a concentration in in education, educational leadership, student affairs, higher education, or other applicable field from an accredited institution
- Over five years of professional experience in related work
- Experience as a department head in higher education
- Experience relating to student conduct procedures
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations including, but not limited to Clery Act, VAWA
