**Job Description - Lead Teacher**

**Responsibilities**:

- Understand the purpose, mission, and philosophy of the church and preschool
- Exhibits a Christian role model and shares the love of Jesus with both adults and children
- Displays professionalism in thought, work, and deed
- Relates joyfully and sensitively to children
- Acknowledges and respects feelings of others
- Works cooperatively with others
- Displays a firm understanding of what is and is not developmentally appropriate behavior in young children.
- Builds and strengthens positive relationships with staff and volunteers, i.e., “team player”

**In the Classroom**:

- Plans, implements, and evaluates curriculum in accordance with mission, purpose and philosophy of Mt. Olive Lutheran Preschool under supervision of director
- Develops weekly lesson plans
- Supervises and evaluates assistants
- Provides assistants with opportunities for input and evaluation of program
- Keeps written plan of daily class activities available for review by parents/care givers as well as teaching assistant
- Keeps current developmental and assessment records of children in class
- Attempts to meet needs of each child
- Reports to parents about children’s progress
- Conducts parent conferences and meetings
- Provides written guidelines for substitutes
- Gives direction to volunteers
- Is aware of and complies with personnel policies of Mt. Olive Lutheran Preschool
- Attends staff meetings and functions of Mount Olive Lutheran Preschool
- Participates in professional growth activities
- Serves as Facilitator:

- Builds, evaluates, plans, and supports children at their individual developmental levels
- Prepares a warm, safe, orderly and clean environment
- Uses good judgment to handle crisis situations and uses supervision constructively
- Provides resources for families
- Orders equipment and supplies within classroom budget
- Demonstrates a genuine love for children; respects children as individuals
- Has knowledge and understanding of child development and needs of young children
- Understands and supports the mission of the learning centre, as well as its philosophy, purpose and goals.
- Maintains good working relationships with staff members and families
- Demonstrates self-motivation and desires to continue learning to increase knowledge and skills by attending staff meetings, workshops and conferences and read publications related to child development and interpersonal relationships
- Follows Mt. Olive Lutheran Preschool’s guidelines as set forth in the parent handbook, parent newsletters, program policies, bulletin boards and any other Early Childhood Program materials.
- Uses tact, discretion and good judgment. Is emotionally secure and stable

**Physical Demands**:

- Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Kneeling, crouching or bending at the waist to assist student
- Seeing to observe students
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment
- Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects (up to 60 lbs.)

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $21.00 - $22.50 per hour
