Camp Science and Gardening Specialist- June 27 to

Overview:
Asphalt Green is a non-profit sports and fitness center with two locations - Upper East Side and Battery Park City. We run a summer day camp for 600 campers at our Upper East Side location and a summer day camp for 250+ campers at our Battery Park City location. Each program is offered to children ranging in age from 4 to 13 years old.

In addition to our active program, Asphalt Green Summer Day Camp offers a wonderful Art and Science program. The Science and Urban Gardening Specialist will lead age-appropriate lessons for each of our camp groups. Our youngest campers entering Kindergarten and 1st grade will have Urban Gardening, where they will have hands-on experience growing and tending to our BPC window garden. All Campers get science experience with interactive awesome science experiments.

Responsibilities include:

- Create weekly age-appropriate lesson plans for each age group
- Lead weekly activities for each camper group
- Work with Head of Arts (HoA) and Program Manager to order supplies needed for activities
- Tend to and water the garden
- Work with HoA on campus-wide projects
- Participate in campus-wide special events and theme days
- Communicate with group counselors, needs of the lesson and delegate responsibilities.
- Prep materials for projects in advance of activities

NOTE: Camp runs **from Thursday, June 27 to Friday, August 16**. Camp staff are required to be on the premises by 8:00 am and the day is over by 4:45 pm. A full summer commitment is required. All summer camp employees are required to attend orientation the evenings of June 17th, 18th and 20th and Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd.

**This position will require lesson planning and activity preparation prior the start of camp.**

**Job Type**: Temporary

Pay: $2,600.00 - $4,000.00 per month

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to Relocate:

- New York, NY 10282: Relocate before starting work (preferred)
