GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT

Research Assistant I will perform experiments and record data in a translational neuroscience research laboratory.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Collects and organizes experimental data
- Maintains records and databases
- Uses software programs to generate graphs and data reports
- Assists with animal surgery (mice)
- Performs western blot, immunohistochemistry, brain tissue preparation, and other routine lab techniques
- Conducts library searches
- Performs administrative support duties as required

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Careful attention to details-

- Ability to follow directions-
- Good communication skills-
- Computer literacy-
- Knowledge of animal research protocolsEDUCATION:
High School Diploma required; some college preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
At least one year of experience working in a laboratory.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works under general supervision in a laboratory setting performing mouse brain injury models and behavioral tests in separate rooms. Supervisor regularly reviews progress of work.
