- Responsible for providing service coordination and support to pregnant and parenting teens.**Qualifications/Skills**:
**Education/Certification**:

- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position.
- Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

**Special Knowledge/Skills**:

- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of unique educational needs of pregnant and parenting students. Knowledge of child development and family dynamics. Knowledge of materials and methods appropriate to the educational needs of pregnant and parenting teens.
- Knowledge of available community resource agencies. Knowledge of principles and practices of problem solving. '
- Knowledge of cultural differences and cross-cultural communication.
- Ability to deal, in an empathetic manner, with pregnant and parenting students.
- Ability to maintain cooperative relations with educational staff, families, and community agencies.
- Ability to work effectively in a team situation by demonstrating cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision, to carry out the goals and objectives of the individualized educational plan.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in Spanish and English desirable.
- Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality.

**Experience**:

- Three (3) years of experience in working with pregnant and parenting teens.

**Major Duties and**

**Responsibilities**:
**Instructional Strategies**:

- Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Work with pregnant and parenting students and their families from various culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to develop a comprehensive service plan.
- Provide information and resources to pregnant and parenting students on such topics as parenting, child development, life skills training and interpersonal relationships.
- Provide information and resources to pregnant and parenting students on such topics as life building classes, case management, prevention/intervention classes, alternative educational opportunities and additional social services.

**Student Growth and Development**:

- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of school district.
- Assist students with coordination and planning activities needed to access services. Perform home and hospital visits.
- Respond to student and family requests in dealing with educational, social, emotional and physical issues related to teen pregnancy.
- Assist pregnant and parenting students in obtaining emergency food, clothing, shelter and other material needs.

**Classroom Management and Organization**:

- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

**Communication**:

- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Reach out to teens and youth who are not in school to encourage them to complete their secondary education or equivalent.
- Advocate for the unique needs of pregnant and parenting students with schools, service agencies and community groups.
- Collaborate and work in partnership with other agencies providing services to pregnant and parenting students.
