Summary:
The Graphic Design Coordinator delivers graphic design services and creative services that help in the promotion and marketing of the School of Public Affairs. Under the direction of the Associate Director for Communications & Content, this position will create design elements for use in internal and external marketing campaigns, academic and fundraising initiatives, events, and programs of the School of Public Affairs (SPA) at American University. The scope of the work entails concept development and design of digital, website and print collateral to support SPA goals and objectives. The position works collaboratively with members of SPA’s communications staff including the director, associate director, and web manager, to produce a wide range of collateral to support SPA’s and American University’s brand strategy.
Essential Functions:
- Design Coordination: Design and produce creative solutions and final art for a variety of print materials. Materials include brochures, postcards, posters and other program mailers for SPA academic programs, events and campaign/fundraising efforts. Work closely with Associate Director for creative direction and concept assessment and critique. This entails participation in weekly team meetings, planning and research, brainstorming and preparing design ideas for presentations. Create new ideas for SPA graphic design rooted in best practices. With communications colleagues, contribute to the creation and production of department multimedia projects. Archive completed projects.-
- Other duties as needed: Other duties and administrative tasks as assigned by the Director and/or Associate Director of Communications which may include managing student workers, scheduling rooms, and organizing internal meetings.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Full-Time.- This is a union-eligible position.
Salary Range:
- $52,000-$60,000/year, commensurate with experience.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in visual communication/graphic design or related field.- 1-3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.- 2-4 years of relevant experience.- Experience in a University environment preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to design and produce projects from start to finish.- Demonstrated experience implementing identity and brand guidelines, campaigns, print production, design for web, and working within tight deadlines.- Must have strong communication skills, be detail oriented, and manage time efficiently.- Must have a solid working knowledge of production, MacOS, and experience with Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and MS Office).- Actively engagement in expanding skills, and awareness of industry trends and emerging technologies.
