The 4-H Youth Educator delivers science-based programs including healthy lifestyles, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), environmental awareness and sustainability, natural resources, agriculture, animal science, and garden-based learning. This position works as part of a 4-H team recruiting and reaching diverse audiences, performing existing or new responsibilities which can change based on Association needs, new partnerships, grant initiatives, etc. The Educator also performs 4-H data entry, enrollments, reporting, etc.
This position delivers programs throughout the communities of Columbia & Greene Counties.

Required Qualifications- Associate's degree in related field. High school diploma/GED equivalent and 1-year related experience may substitute for an associate’s degree.- Experience relevant to the role of the position.- Ability to help ensure diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs.- Ability to meet the frequent travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.- Work Environment - In addition to the Working Conditions; the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. In addition, the position regularly lifts, moves, or transports program related materials and equipment. The position frequently works in outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat and cold, precipitation, and in environments like county and state fairs, outdoor community events, farms, gardens, and natural environmental settings.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery - 75%- Teach existing youth-based educational programs.- Present as a positive role model for youth participants.-
- Attend district and state 4-H events, acting as staff on-site and/or chaperone for youth.- Provide participants and volunteers with related educational resources.- Foster acceptance of the program by maintaining good working relationships with partner organizations and others to further enhance the program.- Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, government officials and Cornell University in a professional manner.- May assist in creation of lesson plans to deliver educational programs.- May assist in multidisciplinary team efforts to deliver programs.
Program Evaluation - 5%- Implement program evaluation as designed.- Make recommendations for improvements.- Assist in the interaction with various constituencies to obtain their evaluation of programs.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Management - 5%- Immediately reports unique and/or emergency situations to supervisors.- Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
Coordination/Operation - 10%- Coordinate assigned projects, programs, trainings, events, and meetings.- Performs 4-H data (data entry, enrollments, reporting, etc.).- Recruit program participants.- Effectively collaborate with, develop, and maintain professional relationships with partner organizations and others.- May assist in the development of marketing or other materials.- Assist supervisor with public awareness by drafting impact statements, social media posts, web updates, articles for progress/ annual reports, or news releases.- Complete and submit all required reports, records, and documentation (e.g., program data, evaluation data, incident reports, expense reports, etc.) in a timely manner.- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding all program participants.
Professional Improvement - 5%- In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
