The Capital Area Food Bank is seeking a Volunteer Engagement Specialist who will advance organizational goals by creating and implementing strategies to effectively engage volunteers during their shifts, coordinating volunteer communication, coordinating volunteer activities, and fostering a positive volunteer experience. This position will ensure all volunteer hours are captured in Hands On Connect, which schedules and confirms volunteer groups. This position updates the volunteer calendar, coordinates with the various departments to ensure sufficient volunteers are available to meet their needs. Communicates with the Volunteer Services team the number of volunteers and groups expected each day. Communicates the packing schedule to the team and produces pallet tags as needed.

Volunteer Engagement60%
- Greets and engages individual and group volunteers; ensures accurate sign-in
- Conducts court ordered orientations, ensures hours are properly logged, and generates completion of letters verifying service hours
- Manages appropriate communication/engagement throughout the volunteer shift (beginning, mid, end of shift)
- Ensures volunteer welcome scripts and talking points are updated with relevant talking points
- Promotes CAFB volunteer opportunities through area volunteer platforms (volunteer match, volunteer Fairfax, etc.)
- Provides guidance and support to volunteers during their service
- Ensures that volunteers have the necessary resources and tools to perform duties
- Monitors and evaluates volunteer satisfaction
- Immediately addresses volunteer concerns and provides feedback for improvement
- Provides safety training for volunteers
- Collaborates with staff to ensure volunteers are well informed about the organizations work and impact

Communication 30%
- Manages calendar of activities
- Tracks all volunteer activities
- Confirms volunteer groups daily
- Communicates and coordinates with other departments that utilize volunteers
- Data Analysis and Management 10%
- Utilizes volunteer management system Hands On Connect (HOC) to run reports on volunteer activity.
- Tracks survey responses, compile data, and reports out monthly/quarterly to relevant parties
- Uses data and keeps up to date on local volunteer landscape to identify trends and areas for improvement in the volunteer program

**Qualifications**:

- Associate degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
- 2-3 years of related work experience; Nonprofit environment preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Knowledge of Salesforce preferred

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**:
General office environment; will occasionally work in warehouse environment. Onsite position with little work from home capabilities. Regular schedule is 5 days a week including 2 Saturdays monthly and evening shifts as necessary. Flexible and extended hours when necessary for CAFB special events. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasionally lifts supplies up to 20 pounds. Ability to travel to sites as needed throughout the metropolitan area. Frequent exposure to change in temperature conditions.
