Fire Battalion Chief-closed Promotional

**The Position**:
Under the general direction of a Chief Officer, this supervisory at-will mid-management position may be assigned to work a 56-hour or 40-hour schedule. Incumbents will assume responsibility for command, communication, coordination, and oversight of all personnel, equipment, and apparatus functioning on a respective shift and may also assume the duties of a higher ranking Chief Officer in his/her absence.

**Representative Duties**:
The duties of a Battalion Chief may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Directly supervising and evaluating Company Officers and reviewing evaluations for other subordinate shift personnel as assigned; Administering discipline, making daily staffing assignments for all stations and apparatus;
- Rotating personnel as needed;
- Demonstrating support for the decisions and direction established by supervising Chief Officers and successfully implementing recommendations when directed;
- Coordinating with Chief Officers and/or Human Resources to resolve performance issues of assigned staff;
- Providing input and coordinating with Fire Administration to establish organizational direction for assigned programs;
- Providing and facilitating effective communication between Fire Administration and twenty-four shift personnel;
- Responding to emergencies, and assuming the command and control functions of the Incident Command System, directing and supervising personnel and apparatus as required;
- Assisting in the preparation and administration of the departmental budget, including compiling data, developing recommendations, compiling purchasing information for bids, and forecasting additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies;
- Assist in assigned administrative duties as a Battalion Chief working a 40-hour schedule;
- Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

S-330AR Strike Team / Task Force Leader
S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior
S-219 Firing Operations **OR** S-234 Ignition Operations
S-270 Basic Air Operations
S-404 Safety Officer **OR** All-Hazards Safety Officer (G/E/L-954)
Associate Degree or Higher
Annual RT-130 Certification (current)
AND
Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification. An example would be nine (9) years of increasingly responsible, full-time work experience in fire suppression, prevention and emergency medical response, including three (3) years of experience as a Company Officer with a professional fire department and an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree or an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Administration or a related field.
**Highly Desirable Qualifications**:
A Bachelor's Degree in Fire, Public or Business Administration, or related field.
