Clinical Associates in the Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) fulfill a unique, important role in service of the program's mission; their contributions are essential to the program’s success. As hybrid educators working at the university and in its partnering schools, Clinical Associates facilitate the joint work of preparing and developing teachers and educational leaders. They draw on the knowledge base regarding the professional preparation of teachers, understand and stay current with research on teaching and learning, are well grounded in their disciplinary fields, and have experience teaching in P-12 settings and at the university level. Clinical Associates understand the daily practice of teaching in schools, the contexts of schools and communities, the policies and politics of schooling, and classroom decision-making. They are successful educators whose expertise and competence are valued by university and school faculty and administration. Clinical Associates thrive in the cultures of both settings.

**Job purpose**
STEP is seeking an English Clinical Associate in Secondary Education with the capacity to fulfill the range of roles described herein and who possesses particular experience and expertise in secondary English teaching, learning, curriculum, pedagogy and instruction. This Clinical Associate will support STEP’s efforts to cultivate an outstanding program for preparing effective secondary English teachers for diverse, public middle and high school classrooms. Clinical Associates report directly to the STEP Assistant Directors.

**Core responsibilities**

Some of the responsibilities supported by Clinical Associates in STEP include, but are not limited to the following:

- **Teaching**: Instructing course(s) in STEP; offering professional development opportunities
for the STEP community (supervisors, cooperating teachers, staff colleagues, partner
schools, alumni, etc.)
- **Clinical work**: providing guidance, support, and mentorship to other university
supervisors; mentoring and supporting cooperating teachers and STEP graduates in
partner schools; maintaining and fostering positive relationships with STEP partner
schools and districts; representing the university to schools, and schools to the
university
support
- **Program support**: working collaboratively with colleagues on a range of supportive
projects to support the development and smooth operation of the program (eg
admissions and recruiting, special events, alumni engagement, and more); remaining
current in professional scholarship tied to educational practice, teacher education, and
educational and racial justice

**Qualifications - education and experience**

Preferred Qualifications: Clinical Associates are expected to hold an advanced degree, a relevant teaching certification, and an appropriate combination of education and experience. They are expected to possess exceptional skills as professional educators and leaders with a commitment to the mission and vision of STEP.

- Strong experience and expertise as a classroom teacher and contributor to schools and
communities, particularly those traditionally underserved by our public school system;
- Knowledge of, commitment to, and successful experience working to develop more equitable
and just educational opportunities and outcomes for all learners;

- Ability to work constructively and communicate effectively with experienced and novice
teachers;

- Demonstrated experience leading team projects;
- Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with members of the academic community;
- Demonstrated experience working in an environment with colleagues of diverse backgrounds and customs;
- Demonstrated expertise with instructional design methodologies, pedagogical issues, and best practices for classroom, online, and hybrid learning;
- Excellent time management and project management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, prioritize tasks, and use good judgment in providing services based on goals;
- Ability to work with and honor diversity in all its forms;
- Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills.

The expected pay range for this position is $95,000 to $135,000 per annum.
