The award-winning Town of Windsor is located in Sonoma County and offers the highly acclaimed wine country experience, along with economic opportunity, temperate weather, safe and well-maintained streets and parks, and a beautiful location. The Town has a population of 28,565 and is situated 60 miles north of San Francisco, 20 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, and 8 miles northwest of the County Seat in Santa Rosa. Incorporated as a common law city in July 1992, Windsor provides a modern, relaxed lifestyle with a growing retail and industrial center for the North County. The Town is currently on a 4/10 work schedule from Monday through Thursday, and is closed on Friday, allowing employees more time to enjoy a work-life balance.

**DEFINITION**
Under direct or general supervision, performs a variety of work in the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of Town infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, traffic and street sign installation, repair, and reflectivity, pavement markings, stormwater and drainage systems, parks, sports fields, playgrounds and equipment, and/or facilities and buildings; uses and operates a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power driven equipment; and performs related work as required.

**SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED**

Receives direct or general supervision from assigned Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. May provide technical and functional direction to assigned staff.

**CLASS CHARACTERISTIC**
Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry-level class in the maintenance worker series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic maintenance experience learn Town infrastructure, systems, and facilities, use of tools and equipment, and a wide variety of practices and procedures.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the full journey-level class in the maintenance worker series that performs the full range of duties required to ensure that Town infrastructure, systems, and facilities to which assigned, are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use.

Positions in the Maintenance Worker class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the II-level are normally filled by advancement from the I-level requiring two (2) additional years of experience and after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and after demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class. When filled from the outside, the employee is required to have three (3) years of prior related experience that allows the employee to meet the qualification standards for the II-level.

**When performing the streets maintenance assignment**:

- Performs construction, maintenance, and repair activities of Town streets, barricades, right of ways, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, traffic and street sign installation, repair, and reflectivity, pavement markings, and stormwater and drainage systems, to ensure safe and efficient access for the public.
- Participates in asphalt maintenance and repairs, including demolition and preparation of areas to be resurfaced, applying, raking, compacting, and paving appropriate materials to the surface, and cleaning up work areas; repairs and patches pot holes as needed.
- Participates in concrete maintenance, including attending to trip hazards, demolishing and removing concrete, and forming, pouring, and finishing sidewalks, handicap ramps, curbs, and gutters.
- Provides fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs, including making signs and installing sign posts and signs in accordance with Federal, State, and Town codes; troubleshoots traffic signal and street light maintenance problems.
- Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance of drainage structures to ensure efficient drainage, including inspecting and cleaning stormwater conveyance systems, removing/abating weeds and other invasive vegetation, and removing sediments, debris, and trash from channels; records location and amount of debris removed.
- Performs graffiti abatement duties, including locating, documenting, and cleaning graffiti and notifying appropriate Town staff as needed.
- Schedules and transports Department vehicles and equipment for maintenance and repair services.
- Responds to safety emergencies such as hazardous spills and traffic incidents. ?
