GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

  • The Water/Wastewater Technician position performs a variety of skilled technical duties and semi-skilled labor in the operation and maintenance of water towers and wastewater lagoons. Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater facilities. Drives a Town vehicle in the normal course of business. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Operates medium equipment such as backhoe/loader, forklift, 5-ton dump truck, and air compressor.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs malfunctions at the wastewater treatment plant, and repairs gauges, pumps, filters, and other controls and equipment.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Collects samples and analyzes for process control and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitors the performance of all equipment, gauges, and charts at the water pump stations; records statistical data concerning water; maintains, operates, repairs, and replaces equipment as necessary; charts lab test results for trend analysis and maintains accurate analyses and test results.
  • Mix chemicals utilized in treatment processes.
  • Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate the flow of water throughout the system.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Participates in the safety program to include adhering to safety policies, observing and correcting safety hazards, and participating in safety-related training.
  • Record data from numerous meters, gauges, and charts.
  • Complete daily laboratory tasks and record/analyze data.
  • Operate pumps, motors, valves, sludge equipment, online instrumentation, and other equipment as required to assure successful operation.
  • Assists in process control strategy in a team environment.
  • Lift Station Rounds.
  • Perform jetting of sewer lines.
  • Water and sewer inspections.
  • Maintain landscape appearance around work areas (mow/trim).
  • Assist with valve exercising along with the repair and replacement of valves.
  • Maintain safety during maintenance activities, such as traffic control and confined space entry. Operate and maintain mechanical and electronic equipment. 
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Helps train and maintain lesser skilled techs in acceptable lab methods, operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, treatment, consumption, etc.
  • There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Flagger certified within 90 days of hire

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or general education degree with course work in math and science is required. Two years of experience in water and/or wastewater utility preferred.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license. Must have a CDL Class B and must receive a Flagger Certification within 90 Days of Employment.
  • Water/Wastewater Technician I: State of Colorado Water or Wastewater Certification within 1st year of employment. 
  • Water/Wastewater Technician II: State of Colorado Water and Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification Class D, and Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification Class 1

  • Must maintain a good motor vehicle driving record. Aptitude for operating tools and equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform moderate/heavy physical work, to lift 75 pounds, and to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, ride, climb, bend, crawl, twist, reach, kneel, grasp, push, pull and perform a variety of similar body movements.
  • Possesses hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to perform mechanical and electrical repair, operate backhoes, use hand and power tools, and operate a vehicle.
  • Ability to talk and hear in person, by telephone and two-way radio; ability to hear equipment and malfunctions.
  • Ability to see and read instructions, manuals, electric dials and gauges, and similar documents.
