After School Program Manager

The After School Program Manager role will help Math Circles of Chicago (MC2) expand and deepen its impact by maintaining and developing its After School Programs (ASPs). Responsibilities include recruiting, onboarding and supporting ASP teachers, overseeing the improvement of our Haynes-5th/6th grade lesson plans, and leading the teachers implementing our rising 7th grade summer camp programs. The After School Program Manager will also be responsible for overseeing the data collection (surveys, etc.) for the programs they oversee.
The After School Program Manager is a full-time employee position. This person will work 40 hours per week for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The position is hybrid, typically with 2 days a week spent in our office and otherwise working remotely.
The After School Program Manager will have responsibilities in three areas: (1) Leading and Expanding MC2’s After School Programs; (2) Overseeing MC2 Planning and Teaching Teams for our Haynes-⅚, program; (3) Coordinating MC2’s Rising 7th grade Summer Program.
- (1) Lead and Expand MC2’s After School Programs Program (ASP) 60% _
- Hold initial Q&A sessions with interested teachers.
- Hold Onboarding workshops with 4-7 new After School Program schools each semester.
- Provide ongoing logístical support for teachers that are starting up a new math circle.
- Support for teachers in their 2nd year and beyond: Develop a cadre of experienced MC2 teachers/contractors to engage in support with the view of creating a long-term, scalable support system; Provide logístical support in collaboration with MC2 Operations staff (e.g. attendance, pay, etc.)
- Managing data: In collaboration with MC2 Operations staff, ensure that reporting protocols for ASP teachers around attendance, forms, surveys, and demographics are carried out; Collaborate with the Executive Direct to develop and support other research initiatives with external evaluation partners.

- General oversight of MC2 systems for creation and improvement of in person lesson plans at the Haynes-5th/6th grade level: Overseeing the Haynes-⅚ planning team which will review activity plans, determining which plans need to be improved, and creating a prioritized schedule for those improvements; Enacting plan improvements based on feedback provided by teaching community, including reflections in MC2’s shared online space (Zulip) and coaching conversations in order to proactively collaborate with other staff and contractors to make improvements for Haynes-⅚ plans; Building a vision that guides teams to consider curricular connections and consistency of community building over the course of the school year.
- Create and lead approximately two activity plan workshops each fall and winter for Haynes-⅚, along with one general interest teaching workshop per semester.
- Provide support for Haynes-⅚ teachers at our Hubs and After School Programs, including conducting observations and providing feedback, co-teaching, and online support sessions, or assigning contractors to provide these kinds of supports.
- Pending MC2’s determination of the future of its online programming, oversee the updating of our online planning for our Haynes-⅚ programs.
- (3) Lead MC2’s Rising 7th grade Summer Program. 10%_
- Prior to MC2’s summer camps, coordinate teacher meetings to help prepare teachers logístically and to guide the improvement of the 7th grade plans.
- During camp, observe each Rising 7th classroom 1-2 times.
We envision someone with the following or similar qualifications:
Required
- Experience serving communities of color, with a focus on BIPOC, and three or more years teaching mathematics in the 3rd to 8th grade range
- Established track record in anti-racist and DEI initiatives and/or training and/or accredited degrees/certificates
- An undergraduate degree in Mathematics and/or Mathematics Education
- Two or more years leading math circles or math enrichment in some form
Desired
- A Master’s degree or above in Mathematics and/or Mathematics Education
- Two or more years coaching or mentoring math teachers and/or math circle teachers, and promoting equitable access to STEM enrichment.
- Advanced experience with online platforms (e.g. Desmos Computational Layer) at a high level.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
