**Duties**:

- You will be responsible for the conception, planning and formulation of the scientific program of the Division in pursuance of the needs of the Navy and national defense.
- You will provide comprehensive scientific and technical leadership of the Division, including fiscal integrity and administrative operations.
- You will define research goals, budgetary requirements, and resources for a staff of approximately 130 personnel including scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative professionals.
- You will plan, direct, and regularly review the prosecution of broad programs in the optical sciences, which includes formulating and developing innovative scientific and technology program proposals in optical sciences research.
- You will be a recognized authority in the field of optical sciences and, serve as scientific consultant to the Navy, other departments of the Government, and leading universities in matters related to optical sciences.
- You will represent NRL in matters pertaining to research and development in optical sciences and make arrangements for cooperative research with other government agencies or laboratories where it is beneficial to the nation.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

**Qualifications**:
