The Biowaste Facility Manager, under direction, manages the receiving, storage, and disposal of animal carcasses from the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Maintains inventory supplies and assists with necropsy.

**What you need to know**

Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

**Salary**: $18.00/hr

**Required Education and Experience**:

- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of related experience in animal laboratory operations to include chemical handling and minor building maintenance.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

**Responsibilities**:

- **BIOWASTE**: Performs day-to-day operations of Biowaste Medical Facility at Texas A&M College of Vet. Med. Operates and maintains a large tissue digester, boiler, forklift, and 3-ton ceiling cranes. Services Texas A&M University needs for disposal of biological, pathological, and infectious waste; ~330,000 lbs. per year. Develops, implements, and reviews laboratory biowaste policies and procedures. Maintains manuals to reflect policy and regulatory requirements. Establishes and maintains laboratory safety plan including MSDS sheets and facility manuals. Monitors weekly waste management effluent release and communicates with water treatment facility and generate the reports. Operates under Title V air permit regulated by EHSD. Performs maintenance and/or repair on facility equipment.
- **NECROPSY SERVICE**: Assists and/ or performs necropsy. Provides safety orientation to all lab participants. Demonstrates necropsy techniques using large band-saw and various power tools. Implements lab safety and infectious prevention. Coordinates various teaching labs.
- **FACILITY MAINTENANCE**: Resolves facility maintenance issues as the building proctor.
- **ADMINISTRATIVE**: Performs monthly invoicing functions for biowaste. Supervises student workers.
- **INVENTORY**: Maintains inventory control program and ensures accurate ordering and proper utilization of chemicals and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned.
