Patient Advocate

The Patient Advocate is responsible for providing effective customer service for all internal and
external customers by using excellent, in-depth knowledge of the patient’s outstanding balance as well as communicating effectively with team members within the AR/Collections Department. This position involves discretion and independent action within prescribed limits.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Provides timely and accurate information to incoming patient inquires on balances.
- Negotiates payment plans according to specified guidelines.
- Generates correspondence to patients regarding balances.
- Works closely with the Manager and A/R Specialist to resolve disputed items.
- Provides timely feedback to the department Manager regarding patient concerns.
- Partners with the team to meet and exceed customer’s service expectations
- Maintain confidentiality of employees and patient related issues
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
- Treat all patients, visitors, and staff members fairly and with respect
- Utilize effective communication methods and skills
- Explain all procedures while remaining aware of language barriers
- Able to perform each call in a non-judgmental manner and recognize discrepancies between patient and personal beliefs
**A/R Collection Policy**:
- Ensure personal appearance is business casual
- Attend all AR/Collections Department required meetings and in-service education
- Remain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignments
- Compliance with attendance standards
- Demonstrate flexibility when changes in assignments are necessary
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- High school diploma required
- 1-2 years of experience in medical collections
- Excellent communication skills with internal and external clients
**LANGUAGE/MATH/REASONING ABILITY**
- Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent: draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
**COMPUTER SKILLS**
- Intermediate computer skills, Excel spreadsheets, Google Docs and Microsoft Word
Pay: $17.00 - $17.50 per hour
