Summary:
The Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) is seeking a graduate student to provide intentional and educational support for LGBTQIA+ programs and initiatives. The Center for Diversity & Inclusion is looking for a collaborative team player interested in enhancing the experience of all students, understanding the campus climate, and partnering intentionally with campus partners and administrative offices to tell to cultivate and create spaces that allows students to engage with one another through dialogue in a meaningful and community driven manner.

Supervisor: The Assistant Director for LGBTQIA+ Programs & Support.

Work Environment:
The Center for Diversity & Inclusion promotes a diverse, respectful, and inclusive learning, living, and working environment for the university community. The Center for Diversity & Inclusion promotes the personal growth of students by providing specialized university-wide educational programs and training, Intergroup Dialogues, as well as support for First-Generation, LGBTQIA+, District Scholars, and the Summer Transition Enrichment Program (STEP) cohort.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is an in person (non-hybrid) position that can work up to 20 hours (a week).

Salary Range: $17.50-$18.50/hour.

Required Education & Experience:
- The Graduate Coordinator for LGBTQIA+ Support Programs must have a Bachelor's degree and currently be enrolled in a graduate program at American University.- Additionally, they must acknowledge and understand multi-layered topics of identity, including ability, race, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender expression, etc.- Open to all graduate students who are enrolled in an American University degree program for the 2024-2025 academic year. As a note, there are no tuition benefits available for this position.

Essential Functions:
- Maintain the TQ Co-Op.- Design and facilitate trans & non-binary programs.- Plan, implement, and evaluate community building, personal and social identity development, academic support, and programs for LGBTQIA+ students.- Develop initiatives to engage campus community on the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality.- Manage development of CDI’s Peer Educator program (Provide supervisor to two Peer Educators)- Draft bi-weekly newsletter in consultation with Assistant Director, LGBTQIA+ Support & Diversity Programs.- Assist with providing resource support and connect students with appropriate resources on and off-campus.- Collaborate with student organizations and Assistant Director to develop student programs and training.- Research, benchmark, and assess other campuses’ educational & support programs.- Provide administrative support for & during Center’s programs and operations to admit participants, track attendance, etc.-
- Other duties as assigned with general office tasks.

Qualifications:
- Strong facilitation skills, can train, present, and navigate conversations about queer, trans/non-binary identities & experiences.- Knowledge of & experience with LGBTQIA+, gender expression, and identity-based programs and services.- Excellent interpersonal communications skills (written and verbal) with attention to inclusive language.- Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple priorities with impeccable attention to detail.- Self-reflective of one’s own social identities and implications with ability to assist others in examining theirs.- Knowledgeable of multi-layered aspects of identity, including ability, race, religious belief and practice, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, racial identity and ethnicity.- Works well with diverse students, staff, and faculty on collaborative projects- Ability to provide program recommendations based on students’ needs.- Critical thinker and innovative problem solver.- Ability to take initiative independently and as part of a team.- Proficient in social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.- Experience with academic, social, cultural, and identity-based programs and services.- Previous teaching, training, and/or event planning experience is recommended.- Previous administrative experience.- Experience with Microsoft Office; website development; able to learn new programs; and comfortable with technology.
