**HAVEN Shelter Manager**

The HAVEN Shelter Manager is responsible for maintaining a safe, confidential environment for clients of the HAVEN Shelter and providing programming and services to adults and children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or abuse. Provide an atmosphere of unity and empowerment for clients, staff, volunteers and those served by the agency.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Client Services**:

- Provide shelter assessments, intakes and exit interviews of residents
- Coordinate room assignments and changes
- Provide direct services to clients
- Provide shelter residents with transition assistance and access to community referrals and resources
- Facilitate educational programs and support groups for shelter clients, as necessary.
- Facilitate client group dynamics and handles client conflicts, as necessary.
- Provide night and weekend staff backup coverage as needed as part of the shelter on-call rotation.
- Educate staff, service providers and community partners on HAVEN’s shelter program

**Program Management**:

- Coordinate all shelter services
- Develop and implement shelter policy and procedures in accordance to Coalition standards
- Assess current shelter programming and develop curriculum to address gaps in service
- Coordinate the implementation of program components including the financial literacy curriculum
- Monitor the quality and effectiveness of the shelter program and develop strategies for improvement
- Manage the daily business operations of the shelter including: gift cards, bus passes, material donations, requisition office supplies and other shelter supply needs.
- Manage shelter donation acquisitions, distributions and storage
- Prepare and submit monthly “bed night” and capacity reports to the NH Coalition; review shelter files on an ongoing basis, assuring quality, accuracy and timely submission of all required documentation, including incident reports, contact logs, shelter communication log and other reports

**Supervision**:

- Provide orientation and on-site training for new shelter staff and agency staff.
- Supervise and evaluate staff and volunteers including interns.
- Provide support and guidance to staff and volunteers to help them maximize their potential.

**Shelter Maintenance**
- Coordinate room turnover cleanings
- Ensure shelter is cleaned and maintained to meet code specifications
- Coordinate daily cleanliness checks and inspect rooms to assure no damage is being done to the property
- Coordinate with Finance Director and Office Manager on shelter repair services, grounds keeping, and other shelter upkeep needs. Work with Finance Director and Program Director to track and prioritize ongoing needs.

**Other**
- Assist in special projects and assignments as required for the effective operation of the agency.
- Participate in Agency Outreach efforts
- Actively promote and support the organization’s mission and vision
- Attend required staff and management team meetings
- Represent HAVEN at coalition and community meetings and trainings
- Attend local and state taskforce and committee meetings as assigned by the Program Director

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance required._ **Certified in First Aid and CPR. (Must earn certification within 180 days of hire.)**_

**EDUCATION**: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field and/or 3 years of relevant experience required.

**SKILLS**: Demonstrated leadership skills, strong management, effective communication and supervisory skills required; Shelter management, crisis intervention and advocacy skills preferred. Ability to work effectively with people of various social and economic status, as well as emotionally upset, ill, disabled, elderly and, at times, hostile people. Ability to supervise and work with children in crisis environment.

**KNOWLEDGE**:Understanding of issues relating to crisis intervention; sexual and domestic violence; and challenges of a community-based crisis center and emergency shelter.
