Development Officer, Institutional Giving

**Position Summary**

The Development Officer, Institutional Giving will be an integral part of the Development Team at the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI), supporting the collaborative efforts of development, program, and executive staff to increase revenue from institutional funders in support of HMI's programmatic and organizational priorities.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the Development Officer will support the creation and development of fundraising materials for institutional funders, donor outreach and relationship management, prospect research, tracking and reporting of deliverables, and grants management and due diligence.

**Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to**:

- Work with the Director of Institutional Giving to help steward a portfolio of institutional donors and assist in creating prospect strategies that include personal visits, cultivation, and solicitation via proposals or other written materials.
- Coordinate, write, and edit significant number of proposals, reports, and letters to institutional donors and prospects for broad and program-specific support of HMI.
- Work with the Director on the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of new donors. This includes prospecting and research via databases, websites, and other donor listings; circulating RFPs and funding opportunities to determine their alignment with HMI programs, and tracking prospects and deadlines through Institutional Giving pipeline grids.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of reports as well as acknowledgment letters for institutional donors.
- Work with Finance and Program staff to track and report program related expenses required for final reports and grant reimbursements.
- Work with Quality Assurance Department to ensure the integrity of program data and reporting figures.
- Maintain accurate information in Raiser's Edge and donor records.
- Stay abreast and have a clear understanding of programs and agency priorities. Be able to represent HMI in a clear and professional manner in meetings with donors and partners.
- Staff tours, events, and other special projects as necessary.

**Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required**:

- Bachelor's degree.
- 3-5 years of experience working with institutional funders.
- Demonstrated proficiency in prospect research, cultivation, and relationship management.
- Excellent composition, editing, and presentation skills with the ability to write effectively in a fast-paced environment; strong proof-reading and editing skills are a must.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Exceptional administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proven ability to track and synthesize complex information.
- Basic ability in managing budgets.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment; strong decision-making skills, and project management skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Acrobat Pro a must.
- Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising database preferred

**Additional Desirable Qualifications**:
Knowledge of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning orientation; sexual identity; youth development; and human service sector issues, and the institutional funders involved.
