**DEFINITION & PURPOSE**:
Under general supervision, performs professional counseling of ranges of difficulty, enabling

substance abuse clients to regain mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health. Promote and assist in

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provides outpatient substance abuse therapeutic services for youth and adults;
- Conducts comprehensive assessment interviews related to client’s total life health, including physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being;
- Provides counseling and/or group psycho-educational classes for issues related to substance abuse use and addiction;
- Develops treatment and aftercare plans in conjunction with other substance abuse program staff, client and family.
- Performs case management and constant evaluation of treatment and aftercare plans; Informs client of residential admission process and expectations;
- Establishes and monitors case records;
- Provides educational activities to clients and within the community pertaining to substance abuse and healing in a culturally competent manner.
- Consults with clinical personnel and other professional providers regarding ongoing client care;
- Provides therapeutic support to clients and their families;
- Participates in case staffing;
- Responsible for maintenance of continuum of care and follow up of client progress;
- Arranges for or provides transportation for clients to treatment programs and other related activities as needed;
- Responsible for reporting requirements for Tribal and Federal Substance Abuse programs, including P.L. 93-638 Substance Abuse funding.

**SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE**:

- Knowledge of the 12 core functions of counseling substance abuse clients and 12-step programs;
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the counseling profession;
- Knowledge of domestic violence programming and the treatment of perpetrators of domestic violence;
- Knowledge of resources and services available in treatment and rehabilitation programs;
- Knowledge of social and legal issues related to substance abuse;
- Knowledge of applicable tribal, federal, state and local laws, statutes, ordinances, rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they pertain to substance abuse;
- Knowledge of HIPAA, privacy and security regulations;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining confidential records;
- Skill in conducting group psycho-educational classes for substance abuse clients; including support groups;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Skill in interacting with clients from various social, economic, cultural, spiritual and psychological backgrounds;
- Skill in developing and implementing therapeutic techniques for substance abuse clients;
- Organizational skills to effectively manage a diverse case load and complex workload;
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, service providers, state and Federal agencies;
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing word processing and database software;
- Other duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION**:
1) Masters Degree in Chemical Dependency, Psychology or Social Work; 2) Minimum three year experience in counseling in the area of Substance Abuse/Chemical Dependency with experience in out-patient treatment; (3) Experience working with American Indian communities and or population preferred; (4) Experience working with children and adolescents preferred. (5) Licensed by the AZ Board of Behavioral Health License in Chemical Dependency; (6) Current Arizona Driver’s License and meet FMYN insurance standards.

**PAY RATE**:$65,351.92 to $78,422.31 (DOE)

**OTHER**:
