**JOB SUMMARY**

The Director of Student Care and Concern provides leadership and management of the University’s student threat assessment system. Responsibilities include management and oversight of the Student Care Team at the main campus, regional campuses, and the University’s professional schools, excluding the UConn Health programs, coordinating and implementing a comprehensive outreach process to help University community members understand how to identify and report concerns.

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director of Student Care and Concern provides leadership and supervision for the professional and graduate student staff in the Office of Student Care and Concern. The Director of Student Care and Concern collaborates with numerous offices to develop a comprehensive and holistic approach to students who may pose a threat to themselves or others.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Provide leadership to the University’s Student Care Team which serves the institution in identifying and managing students who may be a threat to self or others. In this capacity, the Director of Student Care and Concern leads the effort to develop a comprehensive outreach approach, providing ongoing training and education for members of the Care Team and the greater University community. Oversee the University of Connecticut’s student threat assessment team, assessing and coordinating case management, the training of all personnel, and leading the effort to identify and support students of concern and mitigate students who may pose a threat.

Provide leadership and direction to Regional Campus Leadership, Department of Residential Life, UConn Police, SHaW Mental Health Center for Students with Disabilities, and staff regarding their responsibilities on the Student Care Team.

Provide administrative and operational oversight for the Office of Student Care and Concern, having a major role in key personnel decisions, including responsibilities for staffing, hiring, terminating, training, evaluation, and promotion of staff. The director will supervise full-time and graduate student staff members.

Oversee and manage the University’s Care and Concern database system, including the training of all staff on proper case management, guidelines for dissemination and preparation of statistics and reports, maintaining compliance with FERPA, Title IX, The Clery Act and the State of Connecticut Records Retention process.

Partner with University Title IX and Clery Compliance Coordinators, providing reports, updates, trend analysis, and problem-solving while working to ensure compliance related to state and federal laws.

Collaborate with the University’s Behavioral Threat Assessment Oversight Committee. In this capacity, the Director of Care and Concern conducts threat assessments and develops management and monitoring plans for the individuals who are a threat to themselves or the community.

Provide consultation and assistance to the Employees of Concern Team which is managed out of the Office of Faculty and Staff Labor Relations. Consultation includes conducting threat assessments, collaborating, sharing resource materials, and offering systems assistance.

Partner regularly with staff from the Dean of Students Office, SHaW Mental Health Services, Residential Life, the UConn Police, Office of Institutional Equity, and the General Counsel’s Office to provide leadership for policy review and development, keeping the ever-changing needs of students at the forefront of the discussion.

Assist with emergency planning and review and with crisis intervention activities.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- Master’s Degree in Human Development, Human Services, or related field.
- Significant service in progressively responsible positions in higher education (10 years minimum).
- 3-4 years demonstrated experience in threat assessment and or managing response to high-risk cases or crises.
- Extensive experience with professional staff supervision, fiscal management, and human resources administration.
- Effective leadership and collaboration skills, excellent problem-solving, crisis management, team building, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, best practice standards, and policies and procedures for the areas included in this portfolio.
- Ability to build positive and effective relationships with colleagues and student leaders and across diverse populations at the university.
- Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Strong verbal and communication skills.
- Served as a member of a Student Care Team (Threat Assessment Team).
- Use of and documented training in Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management principles and
