Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Vice Dean of Finance and Administration, the Director of Fiscal Operations has responsibility for managing the financial operations function within the School of Arts and Sciences.

**Job Description**:
The Director of Fiscal Operations is the direct supervisor for the Associate Directors of the Regional Business Offices in the School of Arts and Sciences and is responsible for implementation of financial policies, controls, and systems designed to ensure that transactions implemented by the RBO’s comply with all relevant School and University guidelines while maintaining a close eye on the goal of providing high quality client services and efficient and effective business operations. Lead, manage, and develop the various staff who work in the Regional Business Offices as Managers, Grant Managers, Grant Coordinators, Business Administrators, Financial Admin Coordinators and others. This position partners with the Vice Dean of Finance and Administration, Department Chairs, and members of the university level offices of Finance, Research Services, Audit, Business Services and others to ensure compliance with related policies and procedures and address relevant problems and concerns. This position will be expected to serve as the School representative on appropriate University and School projects and committees, coordinating efforts with the Dean’s Office and other School functions. This position will maintain school level responsibility for review and approval of grant proposals, travel-related higher level approval and vet and approve/disapprove various requests for policy exceptions. This position will interact closely with the Director of Financial Management, Budget, and Analysis and other members of the School’s senior staff as a member of the Vice Dean’s leadership team.

**Qualifications**:
- BA or BS degree and 7-10 years of experience in finance and/or accounting, preferably in a University setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master’s degree strongly preferred- Experience in hiring, managing, evaluating and mentoring staff as well as a strong sense of accountability and stewardship for University resources.- Financial management experience in a research-intensive academic environment.- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administration, and stakeholders to achieve School goals and has expertise in implementing sound financial policies and practices with diverse clients.- Ability to manage, mentor and motivate staff; must be comfortable in an environment with competing priorities and possess the ability to convey sensitive information, establish professional rapport with individuals at all levels, and effectively manage conflict.- Expertise in finance and accounting policies, regulations, and complex financial reporting and analysis.-
