**The Office of Academic Affairs, Enrollment Administration/Student Financial Assistance** for the **University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)** has an exciting opportunity for a **Student Counselor Associate.** Under direct supervision, the Student Counselor Associate performs entry level professional counseling duties in financial aid. Work involves a broad variety of specialized processes consistent with a clearly defined team-based work environment and continuous quality improvement objectives. The Student Counselor Associate greets students and visitors, and serves as the initial point of contact for students seeking financial aid.

**Essential Functions**- Provides information to students regarding student employment opportunities and the Federal Work Study award process, and informs students of availability of resources.-
- Redirects student to appropriate school liaisons managing Veterans Administration (VA) policies and benefits.-
- Provides information and refers students to the Office of Educational Support and Disability Support Services as necessary.-
- Refers students to other departments or external parties as appropriate to the needs indicated, i.e., personal counseling, tutoring, writing assistance, etc.**Note**:The intent of this list of primary duties is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this job. Incumbents perform other related duties assigned. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs.

**Qualifications**

**Education**: Bachelor’s Degree.
**Experience**: One year of progressively responsible clerical work.
**Other**: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
