**The Position**:
**OPEN EXAMINATION - ONE YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD**

This is a non-sworn, non-peace officer classification assigned to the Custody Bureau of the Police Department.

**Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following**:
Ensure Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.

Receives, books, fingerprints, photographs and searches arrestees.

Prepares arrestees for court appearance, escorts prisoners to and from cells, and supervises their daily care and visitations. May also handle video arraignment.

Processes prisoners for release.

Maintains records regarding prisoners.

Writes supplemental reports as necessary.

Disseminates information concerning arrestee to court personnel, lawyers, detectives, bonds persons, and family members.

May drive on City business.

Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of this position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.

Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

**Education/Training**
Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate.

**License(s)/Certification(s)**
Valid California Class C driver's license.

Learn the standing policies and procedures pertaining to police operations.

Meet State of California Standards and Training for Corrections minimum physical fitness requirements.
Model and practice the highest standards of ethical conduct.
Multitask in a fast paced working environment.
Quickly and accurately operate complex computerized and mechanical equipment.
Read and comprehend street maps.
Read, write, and comprehend directions in English.
Remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
Stay composed and work in stressful conditions.
Successfully complete an approved Formalized Correctional Course Academy of instruction (California Standards for Corrections, Title 15) within one year of hire.
Understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
Utilize a personal computer, computer terminal keyboard and common business computer software.
Work effectively with other employees.

Marks or scars from injuries or medical procedures are exempt from these policy restrictions.
