**Position Summary**:
The Mass Timber Designer plays a key role in the organization coordinating with external design teams to assist in utilization of Sterling CLT in their projects and translating design information into 3D models, layouts and shop drawings. The Mass Timber Designer will work within the Design Team to help drive Sterling-ready designs, model projects, manage client approvals and coordinate design project delivery.
**Essential Functions**:

- Generate initial product take-offs and provide preliminary design assistance for estimating
- Produce precise, clear, and accurate CLT shop drawings for external coordination and internal operations
- Develop 2D and 3D models and drawings of CLT components for each project in response to structural layout and details using Autodesk Revit and other industry-standard CAD software, coordinating with internal and external A&E teams
- Manage release of final shop drawing packet based on the client-approved 3D model to the factory floor for manufacture, fabrication, packaging and shipping
- Record, track and implement all DfMA change requests while maintaining communication and coordination between the design, project management and operations teams throughout the design and manufacturing process
- Run project kick-off and coordination meetings and manage external team approvals
- Review projects for buildability by balancing in-house fabrication limitations, design intent, engineering requirements, and installation considerations
- Develop generic and project-specific 3D assets to assist with the design and specification of TerraLam CLT in projects
- Facilitate creative solutions to design and logístical site challenges working closely with relevant parties
- Maintain adept understanding of developing mass timber/prefabrication industry trends
- All other duties and projects as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Minimum 2-4 years of hands-on work experience involving BIM, DfMA and shop drawing coordination in a manufacturing or construction environment.
- Educational background in engineering (mechanical or structural preferred), construction, or technical drafting
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit and Bluebeam Revu
- Demonstrated history of learning new software programs and workflows/processes
- Experience in digital fabrication and parametric design.
- Experience with CNC and mass timber design/construction, a big plus.
- Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
- Project management experience, a plus
- Ability to manage workload and schedule independently.
