As a Guidance Counselor, you will be responsible for providing guidance and support to students, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges, and assisting them in developing the skills necessary for success.

  • ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
    A Guidance Counselor is required to perform the following duties:
  • Scheduling
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required
  • Assist students in the areas of academic, career and social/emotional development
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students in the school setting
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students
  • Communicate and collaborate with teachers and school administrators
  • Assist School Leadership in developing programs
  • Adhere to ethical standards of the state and national school counselor associations
  • Make appropriate referrals to students and parents to outside agencies
  • Determine social/emotional needs of student population
  • Conduct goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of students. Sessions include: skill building, social skill development, career awareness, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Provide crisis intervention when difficult situations occur


Requirements:

  • Master's degree in counseling
  • Louisiana State certification as a school counselor
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, students and parents
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in counseling
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
