Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on managing major program(s) or fundraising activities for the organization. Assists in developing fundraising and solicitation strategies and campaigns. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Development Leadership duties: Identifies donors and motivates donors to make gifts to the organization. Cultivates relationships with donors, maintains donor database, develops donor communication, participates in special events, and acknowledges gifts. May be responsible for developing and managing planned giving programs.  Identifies donors, and motivates donors to make gifts to the organization.  A management role that supervises employees focusing on tactical, operational activities within a specified area, with the majority of time spent overseeing area of responsibility, planning, prioritizing and/or directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. A role that supervises all levels of employees.  Responsibilities that typically include: Setting goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results, problems faced may be difficult but typically are not complex, and ensures policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, customers and stakeholders.

This role will be hybrid with 2 to 3 days per week supporting our Tufts Medicine Community entities with some off hours attending events on evenings and weekends

Job Overview

This position will be involved in building a robust philanthropy effort to support Tufts Medicine’s highest academic, clinical, educational and programmatic priorities. In collaboration and partnership with clinicians and other gift officers, this position will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive major and/or leadership giving program to grow and steward a robust pipeline of donors across the system, including at Tufts Medical Center, Lowell General Hospital, MelroseWakefield Healthcare, and Tufts Medicine Care at Home.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree.

2. Five (5) years of experience in frontline fundraising experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Ten (10) years of experience in frontline fundraising in a prestigious, complex organization.

2. Experience at an academic, research, or hospital/health care environment.

3. Experience with a donor CRM.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Provides entrepreneurial leadership that drives Tufts Medicine’s philanthropic commitments to outstanding clinical care, cutting edge research, and state of the art treatments.

2. Builds a portfolio of 125+ prospects and donors.

3. Cultivates donor relationships, solicits gifts, and ensures proper stewardship, executing strategic “moves” and requests with donors and prospects to meet financial and activity goals.

4. In partnership with the Associate Director of Development, Prospect Management and development leaders, establishes long-term cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to both attract support from new donors and maintain support from existing donors.

5. Works independently and with development communications staff to develop fundable proposals and carries out all of the documentation required by prospective funders.

6. Supported by the Development Associate, ensures that all activity is accurately captured and tracked in CRM as appropriate.

7. Creates and maintains strong relationships with Tufts Medicine executive leaders, physicians, and scientists.

8. Translates science and program related strategies into compelling funding opportunities for donors.

9. Supports and coaches physicians and leaders on fundraising best practices.

Physical Requirements:

1. This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending/descending stairs, and operating office equipment.   

2. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.   

3. Ability to see and read computer displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers and symbols.   

4. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate computer keyboard.

6. Demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit and close major gifts; proven experience and success in strategizing and leading the solicitation of five-, six- and seven-figure gifts from high net worth individuals.

7. Demonstrated track record of fundraising success in a fast-paced, large organizational structure.

8. Demonstrated success in collaborating with senior management, physician and clinical leadership to advance a high-level philanthropic program.

9. Maturity to navigate complex relationships.

10. Exceptional interpersonal/communication skills.

11. Superior organizational abilities and detail orientation.

12. Comprehensive knowledge of all fundraising approaches, with special expertise and understanding of grateful patient model, major gifts, leadership giving, and planned giving.

13. Excellent verbal and written communication.

14. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
