This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient acquisition of indirect products and services, optimizing costs, and supporting our operations’ continuity.
Position Summary:
The Purchasing Agent acts as the primary liaison between internal customers and the procurement department, managing local purchasing requests for indirect products and services in collaboration with sourcing and category management teams. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent negotiation skills and a keen understanding of procurement processes.
Core Functions:
  • Manage and execute local purchase requisitions for indirect products and services, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies.
  • Verify purchase request quality and ensure adherence to the correct buying channels, collaborating with end users to refine specifications.
  • Screen potential suppliers and select according to defined strategies, negotiating more cost-effective alternatives when possible.
  • Coordinate the implementation of contracts, ensuring compliance with preferred supplier programs and procurement procedures.
  • Serve as a coordinator between local stakeholders and the procurement organization, promoting efficient use of purchasing systems.
  • Identify and track locally generated savings, supporting strategic sourcing initiatives and spot buy reduction efforts.
  • Manage procurement functions across multiple sites, ensuring the timely delivery of materials and services to support 24/7 plant operations.
  • Engage local stakeholders to ensure all procurement activities comply with legal, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in procurement, purchasing, or a similar role within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of procurement processes and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as a liaison between various departments and external suppliers.
  • Familiarity with purchase order systems and proficient in MS Office and procurement software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to support procurement activities across multiple sites and participate in strategic sourcing initiatives.
