Position Summary:
We're looking for highly motivated wine and spirits professionals to represent our full and growing portfolio in the NYC metro area. We do not cap the size of account runs or earnings. Your upper earning potential is entirely up to your work ethic, dedication, ambition, and talents. Banville will provide a healthy, active account run for you to get started with. You won't be starting from scratch. Sales reps are expected to service both restaurants and retail operations. In essence, you'll be managing your own small business with the company providing the necessary tools. Outwardly, the job is to sell exceptional wines and spirits, but in practice you'll be acting as a small business consultant, drawing from your expertise and experience. Each account is unique in their needs and by helping them be as competitive as possible, you too will prosper.
General Responsibilities:ALL Regular account calls, sampling them on relevant wines and spirits
• Providing accounts with important updates on availabilities
• Managing the ordering process and providing exemplary service
• Attending monthly sales meetings for continual, intensive education
• Opening new accounts; NYC has over 30K active licenses
• Apprising management on marketplace trends
• Collaborating w/ Portfolio Managers on opportunities
• Attending trade seminars, lunches, and tastings
• Working with visiting winemakers as a conduit to NYC
• Creating a strong market presence, promoting a culture of excellence
• Using technological tools and data to inform an effective strategy
Professional Requirements
Education/Professional Experience:
College degree or equivalent experience plus 1 - 3 years of experience in a wholesale, supplier, or restaurant/retail wine sales role.
Skills and Qualities:
Intense passion for fine wine and spirits of all origins and price points coupled with the necessary situational awareness to translate this talent into sales.
Communication abilities are of paramount importance, both verbal and written.
Time management and strong organizational skills are critical, as well as the ability to prioritize the demands of the position. Each day presents a set of challenges that must be addressed in a timely manner so that you may effectively support your accounts and their individual needs.
A convivial attitude and versatile personality that allows you to make meaningful and lasting connections with your accounts and colleagues. This includes paying respect to all employees at any given account, as today's assistant is tomorrow's decision maker.
Self-motivation and the ability to take direction is the difference between an average sales representative and one who rises to become a top earner.
The use of current and yet to be developed technologies is increasingly important Eager adoption and leveraging these tools to maximum effect will be essential to success now and in the future.
Must be an effective communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fast, concise and comprehensive communication is the key to success. Shy personalities and those who are easily deterred by initial rejection will always struggle in this field.
Product Knowledge:
Candidates must display a working knowledge of all major regions, as well as benchmark producers (not just within Banville's existing portfolio). This extends beyond the memorization of soil types and appellation regulations to include familiarity with other portfolios in which you will be competing against. Being able to swiftly assess an account's preferences and relationships with just a glance at the shelf or wine list will be an important skill that determines your ability to add value to the customer. Institutional knowledge of NYC's distribution history is desirable but not a requirement.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, matching the dedication and do-what-it-takes disposition of our customers in the retail and restaurant world. Must be able to travel locally within assigned territory by car, rideshare, or public transportation for up to 8 hours a day, 4+ days a week. Some travel on occasion maybe required. Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
