Summary:

Provides expertise and vision to embrace and support diversity, equity, and inclusion. Collaborates with leaders to implement the DEI strategies. Reaffirms and fosters a climate of inclusion. 

Responsibilities:

1. The Specialist works in close collaboration with the DEI team, leadership, and diverse groups within the organization. Acts as a hospital representative to partner to shape, promote and implement the Akron Children’s Hospital’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy.

2. Helps to guide a visible culture of awareness, appreciation, and engagement of diversity and inclusion.

3. Partner with the Manager of DEI Training and Development to educate employees with programs and training that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

4. Coordinates, tracks, and reports on all organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion activities related to people, clinical, community and supply chain, including minority owned businesses. Provides information on ROI of initiatives.

· Primary contact for DEI surveys, assessment and data requests, review, and consultation (Examples: USA Today, Joint Commission, Press Ganey).

· Point person at ACH for external survey requests.

· Work alongside DEI Trainer to collect, review and consult data with internal stakeholders.

· Work alongside DEI Director to establish framework and opportunities for organization wide Supplier Diversity Program.

· Investigate, frame, and promote best practices and metrics for a program that is conducive to the operational, facility and construction purchasing power with MBEs, SBEs, local and other identified business ventures.

5. Drives hospital-wide employee engagement through committees, programs, and initiatives supporting Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. Suggests new and innovative programs and initiatives to support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

· Primary researcher of DEI best practices and trends in relation to ACH strategy, operations, and people needs.

· Develop and executes all aspects of the annual DEI Calendar including overseeing program execution.

· Maintain knowledge of DEI trends and best practices.

6. Establish and manage Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

· Ensure that the established ERGs re following charter and needs of ACH, DEI strategies and identified initiatives.

· Support ERGs as a central resource, ensuring they have the appropriate resources and level of influence.

7. Cultural Competency Subject Matter Expert (SME)

· Support and engage the organization on cultural competency practices, trends and needs of our patients, families, and employees.

8. Point of contact/liaison with Diversity Consultants

· As needed and instructed by the Chief Diversity Officer and Director, support work with external diversity consultants.

9. Supports management of DEI vendors and contracts.

· Research vetting, execution, management of external diversity partnerships and vendors for the department.

10. May serve as a liaison to some hospital departments (i.e., Medical Education and other hospital DEI Committee).

11. Other duties as required. 

Other information:

Technical Expertise

  1. Experience working with multiple levels of the organization, including executives, physician leaders and physicians.
  2. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
  3. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills required.

Education and Experience

1. Education: Bachelor of Arts required, Master of Arts Degree preferred.

2. Certification: Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)

3. Years of Relevant Experience: 2 years required.
