Description

Full-time (12 hour shifts) - Nights

 

Monitor Technician:

You will continuously monitor the cardiac function of patients on telemetry, providing an accurate interpretation of the rhythm and promptly notifying the nursing staff of any significant findings or changes. Perform clerical and receptionist duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Print and interpret rhythm strips every eight hours and place in patient's chart each shift; alert nursing personnel of rhythm changes or new occurrences and obtain a graphic tracing for each
  • Accountable for alarm limit settings on the monitors
  • Follow policies for placing telemetry leads on patients; troubleshoot any telemetry problems
  • Compile new and current charts; enter patient information on chart and Kardex
  • Perform clerical duties related to admission and discharge of patients
  • Answer telephone and intercom, take messages and communicate information to appropriate person; call and follow-up with consultants
  • Assist visitors on the nursing units

Unit Secretary:

You will provide clerical support and services to meet the specific needs of the Unit. Conduct direct patient care under the supervision of a RN.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs clerical functions for the nursing unit within the unit secretary's sphere of responsibility.
  • Answers the telephone, take messages and communicates messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
  • Answers call lights and communicates messages to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
  • Under direction of a nurse, schedules patient tests, procedures and activities.
  • Prepares admission charts/records. Assemble charts for new admissions with all appropriate forms. Labels chart with correct patient and physician information.
  • Processes patient orders as appropriate.
  • Processes patient discharge orders. Make copy of medical record for accepting facility as required by policy.
  • Disassembles patient chart and sends chart to medial records after patient discharge.
  • Orders supplies under direction of the nurse manager or charge nurse.
  • Assist physicians as needed.
  • Prepares and keeps current census sheets.

Qualifications

  • Current CPR, Basic Cardiac Dysrhythmias certification.
  • Medical Assistant or unit secretary certification or equivalent experience.
  • Must have successfully completed the Telemetry Training.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English through written and verbal means.
  • 1-2 years of minimum experience as a monitor technician
