Job Description:

Job Title – Principal Software Engineer in Test 

Location: Merrimack, NH (Hybrid)

The Purpose of This Role 

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will have two primary focus areas.   

The first is the technical leadership of our growing client enablement approach.  In this role, you will work with of a team of technical and business focused associates to improve and expand our capabilities in the enablement process. 

The second area of focus will be leading the SPS QE organization’s consistency, efficiency, and standards best practices. This will include a focus on the test automation solution for UI, backend and/or ETL testing for highly available systems. You will be working directly with, and in some situations guiding, other Software Developers, Architects, and business collaborators to translate vision and designs into sustainable technology solutions. You will be responsible for providing direction towards the development of test automation solutions for complex software applications, ensuring they are built with quality, consistency to our standards, and utilize the appropriate tools. 

Successful delivery of each focus area will include the creation and maintenance of appropriate measuring and reporting to show progress or opportunities. 
 

The Value You Deliver 

This position will play a key role within Fidelity’s Workplace Investments Stock Plan Services teams. The individual will work closely with the QE COE, QE Chapter Leaders, Architects, Developers, and other QE resources to advise on the design, build and processing across a complete Quality Engineering lifecycle.   

Technical skills:  

  • 6-9 years’ experience predominantly in software test/ Quality Engineering  
  • Strong experience in Java/JavaScript/Typescript
  • Proven experience with Jenkins (CI/CD Pipelines)  
  • Strong experience with Selenium
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another related field 
  • Deep expertise in Functional testing, regression testing and End to End testing 

Hands-on Software Development in Test experience, which includes any of the following: 

  • 5+ years of automation scripting experience (not record and playback) 
  • Good understanding of BDD, CI-CD and DevOps concepts is mandatory. 
  • Expertise in following is required: 
  • Creating and implementing organization-wide strategic vision 
  • Function UI Validation 
  • Validation of SOAP/RESTful web services  
  • PL/SQL  

Responsibilities of the role includes: 

  • Translating business and systems requirements into test strategy, Test scenarios and test plans  
  • Designing, advising, and training on automated tests and tools 
  • Advising on Quality Engineering Practices in development of automation scripts  
  • Stay ahead of on and advise on industry standard best practices in Quality Engineering 
  • Measure and Report key QE metrics 
  • Leading across other technical resources to:  
  • Suggest improvements for processes, standard methodologies, and tools 
  • Find opportunities to improve maintainability of automation platforms

  • Effectively communicating with collaborators and providing up to date status of QA delivery 
  • Guide the team to build a comprehensive end to end test strategy 
  • Ability to quickly learn, adapt and strive to meet the needs of a fast paced, changing environment 
  • Ability to navigate organizationally in order to accomplish tasks 
  • Ability to work on multiple efforts simultaneous 
  • Confidence and skill to be able to provide a direction on standard methodologies and to test and enforce adoption 

Experience in the following is a strong plus: 

  • AWS/Azure 
  • Service and/or data Virtualization  
  • Python 
  • Understanding and working experience of Non-functional testing is preferred
