Fellowship training and experience in a subspecialty area of surgical pathology, such as gastrointestinal and liver pathology, breast, or gynecologic pathology is desired. At least five years of medical practice with demonstrated leadership qualities, including good communication skills, and a collaborative approach, are required. Clinical responsibilities include sign-out of general surgical biopsies and resections as well as participating in frozen section, cytology and on-call services in addition to oversight of general clinical pathology needs. Administrative responsibilities include physician recruitment and development, achieving departmental quality, financial, and patient satisfaction goals, developing new initiatives, effectively managing resource allocation within the department, and optimizing departmental operations. Participation in daily clinical activities is expected. Protected time will be provided for administrative functions. There is opportunity for an academic appointment.Hospital processes approximately 15,000 surgical and non-gynecologic cytology specimens per year. Clinical pathology provides on-site services in clinical chemistry, hematology/coagulation and transfusion medicine.
