About This Role 
The Director, External Growth – North America will 
1.) identify and execute innovative partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem to expand reach and improve patient experience across Biogen’s therapeutic areas of interest and 
2.) partner with the global Corporate Development team on evaluation and due diligence of licenses, collaborations, and M&A for North America focused inorganic growth opportunities

What You’ll Do 
Healthcare Ecosystem Partnerships/Collaborations (50% of role)
•    Keep a pulse on the market dynamics and key players across sectors of the healthcare ecosystem (e.g. retail pharmacy, digital health & integrated care delivery)
•    Be a strategic thought partner with the North American Therapeutic Areas and North American Leadership Team to develop partnership use cases
•    Identify external partners, build relationships and negotiate partnership agreements with legal, compliance and procurement approval
•    Lead internal/external, cross-functional teams contributing to the execution of partnership program(s), providing periodic leadership updates including KPIs  
•    Foster and maintain relationships with leadership at strategic partners; be the internal champion for continued funding and support of ongoing partnerships
•    Develop business cases in support of any engagements with strategic partners
Inorganic Growth Assessments (50% of role) 
•    Create playbooks including targets for core growth areas, market assessments, identification and evaluation of strategic and financial prospects of new market opportunities.  
•    Proactively propose and reactively assess licensing, acquisition, and alliance opportunities, co-promotions, etc. which advance and enhance Biogen North America’s position in the marketplace.
•    Assess growth opportunities, lead cross-functional evaluation and diligence teams for North America. 
•    Develop Biogen North America perspective on deal models and demonstrate thought leadership, executive presence and influence with cross-functional partners. 
•    Translate and communicate compelling business development & licensing opportunities to senior management.

developing creative solutions to business problems. You are also well connected across our industry and capable of building relationships with business leaders to execute innovative partnerships.

Qualifications

Required Skills 
•    Bachelor’s Degree, MBA preferred
•    12+ years of progressive healthcare experience including M&A/BD/due diligence in biotechnology; healthcare consulting, corporate BD, investment banking experience preferred
•    Breadth of experiences across healthcare commercial disciplines, including digital health, are an advantage
•    Experience and deep understanding of healthcare ecosystems
•    Ability to drive and lead through change and ambiguity
•    Proven ability to project manage complex and innovative programs cross-functionally and with external partners
•    Ability to clearly and succinctly convey ideas to key internal organizational stakeholders
•    Ability to lead within the matrix. Knows how to establish and maintain momentum both through formal channels and the informal network
•    Ability to work independently in executing against multiple strategic projects simultaneously under tight and rapidly evolving timelines
