The College of Education is also home to the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation.

About the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development
The Department of Education Leadership, Policy, and Human Development (ELPHD) comprises 40 full-time faculty members and more than 750 students. ELPHD advances education through scholarship, leadership, and advocacy. Essential Job Duties:

The Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development at NC States College of Education seeks an exceptional candidate to work in the area of Community College Leadership. This appointment will be a tenure-track appointment at the rank of associate professor in the Community College Leadership program area. The position provides focused leadership and support as program director for the Ed.D. program in Community College Leadership. As director of the Ed.D. program, this professor will work closely with the program faculty and coordinators on advising students, supporting dissertation committee assignments, and reviewing and updating the program curriculum. This professor will have opportunities to collaborate with the Belk Center for Community College Leadership. The leadership, scholarship, and teaching of this new colleague are expected to enhance the excellence of the academic community and contribute to the College of Educations overarching goal of leading the way in North Carolina and beyond to increase postsecondary completion and success to assure improved social and economic mobility for all. Key responsibilities are to:

  • Maintain and provide evidence of a record of scholarly research, publication, and externally sponsored work with a content focus on topics related to community colleges warranting an appointment with tenure
  • Lead program meetings, maintain program agendas and minutes, and communicate with program faculty
  • Represent the program faculty as the liaison between the program, the Director of Graduate Programs, and the Department Head
  • Develop courses for the Ed.D. program in community college leadership and contribute to program design, development, and evaluation of programs
  • Chair and serve as a member of dissertation committees in the Ed.D. (applied problems of practice) program
  • Teach (hybrid, face-to-face, and online) courses
  • Effectively recruit, guide, and advise graduate students in the Ed.D. program
  • Provide collaborative leadership to advance the success of students in solving problems, with particular attention to research and scholarship in one or more of the areas: student success, workforce development, labor market outcomes, alignment of education and work, or work-based learning
  • Contribute to program design, development, and evaluation of programs
  • Contribute to the overall departmental, college, and university missions through research, teaching, and engagement/outreach service
  • Engage in collaborative curriculum design and planning, contribute to the intellectual diversity of the department, and mentor doctoral students
  • Collaborate with the Belk Center for Community College Leadership aligned with areas of research and scholarly expertise
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • A doctorate in higher education or a related area with an established record of scholarship and research
  • A minimum of five to seven years of scholarly evidence (peer-reviewed publications, externally funded research, and formed research practice partnerships) related to community college leadership warranting an appointment at the rank of associate professor at NC State
  • A minimum of five years work experience in higher education, community college, or equivalent settings
Other Required Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with program coordination, curriculum development, and mentoring early career faculty
  • Demonstrated ability to guide doctoral students through the dissertation development process and evidence of successful completion of chairing students at the doctorate level
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply skills of equitable and effective digital instructional technologies within courses
  • Clear commitment to interdisciplinary and collaborating with faculty in and outside of the institution
  • Plan to maintain an established record of scholarly research and publication appropriate for a Research University (very high research activity)
  • Trained in research methods, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, with the ability to teach quantitative courses and advise quantitative dissertations
  • Ability to obtain large funded research as PI or Co-PI
  • Demonstrated professional experience working with community college faculty, staff, and/or students
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving all communities.
