Preconstruction Director – Water & Wastewater Construction McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is America’s premier, 100% employee‑owned commercial construction company. We specialize in complex water and wastewater projects across the nation. Responsibilities Pursuit Phase – Network at industry events, develop pursuit strategy, client meetings, support marketing RFP responses, interview preparation, lead Design‑Bid‑Build or Fixed‑Price pursuits. Preconstruction Phase – Lead collaborative delivery projects (CMAR, Progressive Design Build); prepare and oversee preconstruction schedule; develop cost estimates (10%–100%); fill design gaps for treatment plant processes; produce Self‑Perform estimates for Concrete, Misc Metals, Process Piping, Process Equipment, Earthwork, Underground Piping; develop GMP; manage risk identification and mitigation; conduct estimate reviews; present deliverables; propose alternative solutions; manage vendor and trade partner procurement; maintain budget control; represent McCarthy in design meetings; coordinate General Conditions; log action items; train and develop preconstruction staff; build relationships with owners, design engineers, and subcontractors; attend industry events; implement safety and EEO programs. Construction Phase – Work with construction teams to monitor productivity, budgets vs. actual costs, and labor rates; clarify scope and GMP; reconcile final costs with design documents. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. 10+ years of estimating, design management, and field management experience on projects $100M+. In‑depth knowledge of water and wastewater construction principles and practices. Experience managing subcontracts, purchase orders, and vendor relationships. Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills. Self‑starter, highly motivated, and focused on continuous improvement. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values.
