Department Overview: The Lean Operations team at PG&E establishes the strategy and approach to ensure the continued development, improvement, and ownership of the PG&E company-wide lean methodology. Specifically, this position will support the team tasked with implementing the Lean Operating System across Electric and Gas. The goals for the team are:
- Develop and support leadership engagement at all levels of Operations, including union leadership on the Lean Operating System (Lean).
- Implement the 5 Lean plays across all areas of Electric and Gas Operations.
- Establish standards and controls to ensure quality and consistency.
- Lead the expansion of 5S activities across Operations.
- Develop and implement the full Lean yard concept in the five regions and develop plan to expand.
- Organize and support the cross-functional problem solving in 19 Divisions.
- Engage and support frontline workers, and unlock the power of coworker engagement with Lean, PSEMS and Breakthrough Thinking.
- Align Lean implementation approach with Enterprise Lean Office.
Position Summary: Leads the Lean journey through role modeling and an ability to influence change. Sets Lean vision for organization, aligns team against vision, cascades goals, and provides ongoing coaching. Ensures functional teams are set with the right personnel to facilitate and sustain Lean deployment. Stays closely engaged in the health and progress of functional deployments and manages Lean resources to drive the most impact. Continuously builds Lean skills through training and hands-on experience. Enables frontline coworkers to operate with higher levels of safety, quality and affordability.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $136,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $184,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $232,000.00
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for successful Lean deployment and sustainability across frontline coworkers in Electric and Gas Operations.
- Sets vision for how to deploy and support lean tools in service to functional operational goals (i.e. Senior Director/VP level), communicate it at events like functional ELT/all-hands meetings.
- Manages team of Lean Leaders and/or Lean Coaches to design and deploy core tools (e.g., operating reviews, standard work) across a function.
- Develops strategy, plan, and standard for Lean coaching to support adoption of Lean and the Lean Yard Expansion.
- Ensures alignment and regularly communicates with the Senior Director or VP of the function being supported.
- Spends significant portion of time with team problem solving content, conducting observations, and providing coaching.
- Influences and coaches functional leaders (directors, senior directors, vice presidents) in using Lean to achieve their goals.
- Facilitates trainings for own Lean team, as well as supports team in driving Bootcamps and other trainings for functional teams.
- Has advanced level of Lean knowledge to be able to leverage best practices and all available resources.
- Quality checks Lean assessments and coaches team to ensure they are fully calibrated.
- Makes strategic decisions based on evaluation of Lean impact across function and directs team and other leaders appropriately.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience
- 8 years of job related experience
Desired:
- Understand PG&E’s Lean Management System and how to connect such to the day-to-day work of the enterprise, including the culture of PG&E.
- Ability to set strategy and direction for Lean Yards team, driving Lean deployment across Electric and Gas Operations.
- Skill in coaching a large, dispersed team, with both direct reports and dotted line reports.
- Formal experience in Lean, either through relevant job experience or Green/Black Belt role
- Experience with change management
- Experience deploying the specific core lean tools in Functional Areas
- Proven track record of driving cross- functional projects to success within the PG&E environment
