Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach RN

POSITION SUMMARY
The Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach RN, with guidance from the Trauma Program Manager, uses knowledge and expertise to increase community awareness and elevate regional outcomes through data collection and injury prevention programs.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Reviews trauma data from hospitals and communities to identify patterns and injury risk factors for prevention strategy. This strategy, updated yearly, will be based on local, regional, and national statistics as well as new laws.
* Implements alcohol screening procedures to identify patients with alcohol abuse problems in line with standards set by medical bodies.
* Identifies suitable funding sources to include grants and carries out the application process to support the injury prevention strategy.
* Collaborates with Health First (HF) Marketing and Communications Teams to maintain and update social media presence including trauma website, Trauma Blog and external social media apps.
* Contributes to multidisciplinary research on injury prevention aimed at reducing identified injuries by collecting and submitting data to various local, state and national committees as well a holding a seat on various committees.
* Acts as a subject matter expert for HF Marketing and Communications Teams for media communications and public service announcements related to injury prevention education.
* Monitors compliance with trauma protocols, policies, and procedures.
* In collaboration with Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator, performs concurrent and retrospective case reviews to identify variances in trauma care.
* Rounds daily on patients admitted with Falls to provide Fall Prevention information.
* Plans and tracks injury prevention activities including participating in Bicycle Helmet Distribution minimally six (6) times per year.
* Plans and tracks community education teaching:
* TNCC minimally six (6) times per year.
* ATLS minimally four (4) times (two full courses and two refresher courses) unless otherwise directed.
* Stop the Bleed and Fall Prevention each monthly within trauma catchment area at various locations.
* Assists in coordinating annual Trauma Survivor Network Event.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Licensure: Current State of Florida RN license or endorsement.
* Certification: Must have or must obtain within six (6) months of hire/transfer and maintain:
* TNCC Instructor Certification.
* ATLS Coordinator Certification.
* Registered Stop the Bleed Instructor.
* TSN Coordinator.
* Work Experience: RN with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in Emergency Dept. or ICU or Trauma or Critical Care at a designated Trauma Center.
* Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Proficiency with the Electronic Medical Record.
* Proficiency in MS Office ? Outlook, Word, Excel.
* Able to work flexible hours and days, including weekends and evenings to support community education and activities.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, compassionately, professionally, and respectfully with patients, families/caregivers, and the healthcare team with diverse backgrounds and levels of understanding.
* Ability to respond appropriately and compassionately to life threatening and stressful situations.
* Initiative and ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands and meet deadlines.
* Ability to network with internal and community partners to facilitate access to resources for the trauma patient population, their families/caregivers, and health care teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Education: BSN
* Work Experience: Five (5) years of RN experience in a Level I/II Trauma Center.
* Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Highly developed verbal and non?verbal communication skills.
* Ability to navigate and document in the Trauma Registry NQS.
* Experience in the planning and implementation of education and training for patients, caregivers, professionals, community groups, and hospital associates.
* Experience with assessment and treatment of PTSD and acute stress symptoms caused by injury.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping.
* Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
* Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
* May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
* Communicating with others to exchange information.
* Visual acuity and hand?eye coordination to perform tasks.
* Workspace may vary from open to confined, onsite, or remote.
* May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
