Senior Analyst, ESG

Our ESG team is currently seeking a Senior Analyst in our Marlborough, MA location. This is a full time, exempt role. Position is eligible for hybrid/flex work arrangement.

The successful applicant will have a shared role between the ESG office and Finance team focused on the Companys ESG reporting requirements and sustainability initiatives. Primary responsibilities currently include assisting in the collection, preparation and analysis of reports focused on the requirements of the SEC climate disclosure rule, as well as progress towards the firms ESG and sustainability-related commitments. Regulatory inquiries, newly announced disclosure requirements, and additional sustainability initiatives will expand the scope of the teams responsibilities. Key deliverables include implementation and reporting of SEC climate disclosure rule, monthly/quarterly/annual progress reporting on sustainability initiatives, preparing materials to deliver to senior management, and external disclosures and reports. The applicant should also possess the ability and confidence to work well with a broad range of teams across the firm, consistently helping to develop investor-grade reporting.

Responsibilities

  • To assist in developing and executing formal ESG and sustainability governance policies and practices in support of mandatory disclosures and reporting to ensure information is accurate, complete, and in compliance with SEC standards, as well as other regulatory requirements, as applicable.
  • To assist in the use of the companys online platform used for data collection and audit, prepare instructions and guidance materials for data providers on how to use the system and submit high-quality auditable data.
  • Key team member working alongside our financial and ESG reporting teams in the development, documentation, and execution of the ESG disclosure control program to support required external reporting and auditor assurance for ESG reporting, leveraging use of technology where appropriate.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on climate data, industry benchmarking, carbon accounting, GHG emission reporting and reduction methodology.
  • Analyze data and trends to produce insightful reports, papers, and presentations that support decision-making.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external auditors to coordinate their roles in the review, oversight, and assurance to certain aspects of mandatory ESG reporting.
  • Act as a liaison between Finance, Sustainability, Legal, Real Estate, Operations, and Human Resources, as well as other functions to establish proper processes and controls around climate and other ESG-related disclosures. Support functional areas to implement new business processes and controls for data gathering and reporting.
  • Conduct ongoing benchmarking of ESG and sustainability disclosures relative to our peers, other corporate ESG and sustainability leaders, industry trends, and best practices.

Experience/Skills

  • 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in ESG and/or Sustainability. Will also consider experience in Public Accounting or in a comparable industry
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting or other business discipline (e. g. Sustainability Management, Environmental Economics, Supply Chain, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or Data Analytics) required
  • Knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting including scope 1, 2, and 3 required
  • Familiarity with ESG-related disclosures and industry trends, and willing to develop expertise, is preferable but not required
  • Experience and knowledge of U. S. GAAP and SEC reporting, ESG reporting frameworks (SASB, TCFD, GRI, etc.), internal controls, and other statutory requirements including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance preferred
  • Must be comfortable to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities (e. g., time management and efficiency)
  • Strong analytical skills (e. g., identify and research issues/outliers)
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills. An understanding of ESG terminology is preferable but not required
  • Self-motivated and results driven

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJs Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $85,000.00. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, a comprehensive benefits package, and a flexible work arrangement (3 days in our Marlborough, MA office, 2 days remote).
