This position supervises Transplant Service Line clinical nursing positions, support staff and processes by coordinating and overseeing work assignments. This position is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients throughout the organization. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates all intradepartmental and interdepartmental activities. The incumbent is responsible for all on-site administrative decisions in the absence of the administrative team and participates in the development, implementation, and revision of Transplant Service Line policies and procedures. This position participates in the interview process as well as assesses, develops and provides training for new and existing employees. This position has the authority to determine appropriate training needs and initiate disciplinary action. This position may be required to provide direct patient care as needed by area of assignment. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.

Responsibilities
* Coordinates the work of an area in the department in mission, vision, and values.
* Drives the operation in alignment of goals and strategy of the department.
* Schedules labor and equipment.
* Accountable for the accurate reporting of time and attendance of direct reports.
* Actively participates and leads patient selection committee meetings assuring all regulatory required aspects of patient selection are completed.
* Provides input related to patient selection and assures clinical treatment decisions have been assigned for completion by the appropriate transplant team member.
* Supervises clinical operations within individual transplant programs and assists teams in the resolution of operational issues, as needed.
* Represents all programs within Transplant quality structure, assisting with event reviews and post event staff education.
* Provides Emergency Transplant Waitlist placement approval for patients without insurance authorization.
* Provides administrative approval for organ acquisition or organ perfusion related expenses.
* Leads the implementation of new processes or procedures and the development of training for clinical transplant staff.
* Manages Transplant IT issues and assists staff with resolution or escalation.
* Collaborates with Transplant Program Managers to maintain operational compliance with organizational policies, procedures and transplant specific regulations, including CMS, DNV, and OPTN.
* Collaborates with Transplant Program Managers to develop annual transplant program budgets in order to maintain staffing and supply resources within established budget targets.
* Manages monthly Medicare Time Study reporting, required for all staff providing pre-transplant care.
* May manage the hiring, orienting and development of staff.
* May conduct employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes to align employee performance and behaviors.

* Ability to resolve staff and scheduling conflicts in order to meet department goals and needs.
* Ability to orchestrate multiple tasks simultaneously.
* The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Required
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
* Two years of transplant nursing experience, which includes direct care to pre or post-transplant recipients within the last 5 years.
* Certification by the American Board for Transplant Certification as a Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator, Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator or Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Licenses Required
* Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
* Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
* One of the following
* Current certification as a Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN) through the American Board for Transplant Certification.
* Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) through the American Board for Transplant Certification.
* Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) through the American Board for Transplant Certification.
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
