Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Lab Manager to oversee all aspects of our laboratory reagent production, packing, and shipping. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of 6 supervisors, 5 Group Leads, and 45-50 technicians. Key responsibilities include creating budgets and operating plans, scheduling product production, coordinating cell orders, training staff, collaborating with procurement and logistics teams, and maintaining departmental systems and SOPs. The individual will also handle customer requests and provide product information. Technical writing skills are critical, as the role involves writing documents for regulatory agency review.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Supervise and direct production laboratory teams, including employee hiring, training development, evaluation, and discipline.
Develop support staff to deliver personable, responsive support with in-depth technical expertise on our products and applications.
Model and demonstrate superb, proactive customer technical support to key or strategic accounts as part of a cross-functional team.
Take ownership of escalated problems, complaints, and personnel issues.
Provide guidance and specific feedback to assist with employee projects, problem-solving, and professional development.
Evaluate and implement new or improved technical support processes and workflows.
Identify, monitor, and analyze performance measures to make recommendations to upper management regarding staffing requirements, efficiency improvements, and performance standards.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelors degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Animal Science, Bioinformatics, or related field and 8+ years of applicable experience.
4+ years previous management or leadership experience in a scientific support or applicable role.
Demonstrated expertise in production laboratory setting, good laboratory practices, and working with regulated environments like the FDA or USDA.
Capable of understanding and articulating complex scientific, interpersonal, regulatory, and business issues.
Ability to probe skillfully to get the facts when others are averse to providing detailed information.
Accepting responsibility for the direction, control, or planning of customer-facing technical support activities.
Ability to proactively make decisions and take ownership in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Business, Molecular Biology, Biology, Animal Science, Bioinformatics, or related field .
Technical relationship management with key or strategic partners.
Demonstrated success as part of a cross-functional project or customer support team.
Experience driving process improvements.
Experience working with budgeting, inventory management, and investigating deviations.
