About the Role:

As a contracted Athletic Trainer for the Harlem Globetrotters in this seasonal position, you will play a critical role in the health and success of the Harlem Globetrotters. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be diverse, requiring not just a strong foundation in athletic training but also an unparalleled commitment to adaptability and excellence in care. Key Responsibilities: this is a traveling position

Injury Prevention and Management: Develop and implement comprehensive injury prevention programs, including but not limited to warm-ups, conditioning routines, and educational workshops on topics such as proper nutrition, hydration, and sleep habits. Customize prevention strategies to each athlete’s needs, considering their physical condition and the demands of their performances.

Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct detailed clinical evaluations and diagnoses. This responsibility requires a deep understanding of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, as well as the ability to quickly and accurately diagnose issues to implement effective treatment plans. This involves understanding the nuances of sports-related injuries and the specific demands of basketball.

Rehabilitation Program Design and Implementation: Craft individualized rehabilitation programs that address specific injuries or conditions, promote recovery, and prevent re-injury. This includes selecting appropriate therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and the use of therapeutic modalities. Regularly evaluate and adjust these programs based on recovery progress and athlete feedback.

Travel Readiness: Prepare and manage medical kits and supplies for travel, ensuring readiness to address any medical needs that arise on the road. Be prepared for the dynamic nature of the work environment, adapting to the needs of the team and individual athletes with professionalism and care.

Emergency Care: Be the first responder to acute injuries during practices, games, and performances. This includes on-the-spot assessments, applying first aid, making split-second decisions about play continuation, and initiating emergency care protocols as necessary.

Documentation and Compliance: Maintain detailed records of injuries, treatments, and recovery progress, ensuring compliance with professional standards and confidentiality requirements.

Education and Communication: Educate athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and lifestyle choices that contribute to their overall health and performance. Foster open communication with athletes and team staff to ensure a cohesive approach to health and wellness.

Seamless Team Integration: Function as a cohesive unit with the athletes, understanding their unique needs and concerns, and providing personalized care and support. Your role extends beyond medical care; it’s about being a trusted advisor and a constant source of support.

Collaborative Teamwork with Athletic Training Staff: Work closely with fellow athletic trainers to develop and implement injury prevention strategies, treatment plans, and rehabilitation programs. Share knowledge, insights, and best practices to foster a learning environment and ensure the highest standards of care. Maintain open lines of communication with coaches, management, and other relevant staff to coordinate care and optimize athletes’ health and performance. Your ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively is crucial for the success of our athletes and the organization.

What We’re Looking For:

Certification & Experience: Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) with a valid BOC certification. Georgia Athletic Trainer Licensure. Preference of 3 years of experience working with athletic teams, preferably in basketball or similar sports. Experience in a traveling sports team setting is a plus.

Skills: Exceptional skills in injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated a proven ability to work effectively autonomously & collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
