Job Title Branch Chief, Traffic Operations Northeast Department Department of Transportation Classification & Salary Senior Transportation Engineer, CALTRANS Salary: $11,437.00 – $14,315.00 per month. New‑to‑State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Office Chief of Operations, the incumbent serves as the Branch Chief of the Traffic Operations Northeast Branch; supervises, manages, and trains employees, and provides direction and guidance in administering department policies and guidelines. The incumbent: Provides technical direction, guidance, and support to ensure full implementation of the Department’s Safety and Traffic Operations Programs. Leads staff to evaluate and monitor traffic conditions on freeway mainlines, corridors, ramps, conventional highways, and intersections. Reviews and supports the development of capital projects, safety, and operational improvement projects. Manages Traffic Operations and Project Delivery program resources to ensure employees are productive and deliverables are completed on time. Uses continuous improvement processes to increase staff productivity, reduce cost, and maintain or increase the quality of Caltrans products and services. Minimum Requirements Valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. Possession of a valid driver’s license when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle. Knowledge of the Department’s traffic safety policies and procedures. Experience leading and supervising professional staff and implementing department personnel policies. Ability to build and strengthen partnerships with internal and external customers in transportation.
