Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary:

Mechanical design oversight of multi-million dollar power generation facilities or other types of industrial projects. Help ensure mechanical engineering deliverables are completed, on-time, and on-budget while maximizing production efficiencies and output through mechanical design, specification development, equipment installations, troubleshooting, and work to minimize the construction / commissioning cycle. Ensure mechanical design is safe and reliable that meets codes and standards. Participate in customer meetings and occasionally support proposal development.

Position Description:

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will oversee the Engineer of Record's (EOR) mechanical team who is subcontracted to complete the mechanical specifications, piping design, calculations, and mechanical engineering solutions for the project. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will work with Gemma's Project Engineering Manager (PEM) to ensure their work product meets both the project and engineering contract requirements while ensuring the design is in line with Gemma's construction standards. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will aid in responding to field issues that arise during installation and commissioning. Multiple short trips to the EOR's office will be required during the design phase and a few longer trips to the site will be required during construction/commissioning.  Periodically, the Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be required to support project development by helping to create technical documents in response to Request for Proposals (RFP).

Responsibilities:

Project Development and Proposals:

* Read and understand project requirements for proposal activities
* Provide review comments for customer specifications, plans, and specifications
* Perform calculations for equipment sizing, heat balances, pipe sizing, auxiliary load estimate
* Develop specifications to support procurement bid activity
* Assist with bid evaluations and vendor technical selection to support estimate

Project Execution:

* Read and understand project requirements for project execution, including contract documents, project scope book, technical plans and specifications
* Review and confirm specifications issued by the EOR to assure adherence to Gemma standards and the contract technical documents
* Support procurement bid activities
* Make recommendations to PEM or Project Manager for cost-saving installation, operational, and performance improvements
* Review and comment on EOR drawings and specifications
* Review and comment on vendor drawings and other documents
* Assist with bid evaluations/vendor technical short list selection
* Develop draft conformed specification or purchase from selected supplier
* Attend vendor meetings as required
* Prepare responses to client or owner's engineer comments on the design
* Monitor the expediting of vendor documents
* Help resolve design issues from the field

Requirements:

* BS in Mechanical Engineering
* PE (or EIT) certification in Mechanical Engineering
* At least 8 years of experience with design/engineering for power plants or industrial facilities
* Team player with good interpersonal skills
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Well organized and able to participate in projects and meet deadlines
* Possess strong problem-solving skills and be adept at working with a multi-disciplinary team.
