Position Overview:

The Bridge Project Manager will oversee and manage the successful execution of bridge engineering projects, from conceptual design through construction and project completion. This role requires a combination of technical expertise in bridge engineering and proven project management skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the engineering team, managing project schedules and budgets, liaising with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership & Management:
  • Lead, manage, and coordinate bridge engineering projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, resources, and risk management strategies.
  • Provide technical oversight and direction to project teams, ensuring effective collaboration and problem-solving throughout all project phases.
  • Communicate with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to establish project goals, expectations, and requirements.
  • Ensure that all project milestones and deliverables are met, managing both internal and external resources efficiently.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, providing regular project updates and addressing concerns.
  • Oversee procurement and contracting processes, including managing the selection of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Technical Oversight & Design:
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in the design, analysis, and evaluation of bridge structures, ensuring compliance with design standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Conduct design reviews, approve calculations and specifications, and ensure that work meets client requirements and industry standards.
  • Ensure that all bridge designs and related infrastructure meet safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and approve final project deliverables, including design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Budget & Schedule Management:
  • Manage project budgets, monitor costs, and take corrective actions when necessary to keep the project within financial constraints.
  • Develop project schedules, track progress, and ensure on-time project completion.
  • Identify potential project risks and take proactive steps to mitigate delays, cost overruns, or design issues.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Quality Control:
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including AASHTO, FHWA, and any other relevant design codes.
  • Implement and enforce quality control and assurance processes throughout the life of the project.
  • Perform site visits and inspections to ensure that construction activities adhere to design specifications and safety standards.
  • Team Collaboration & Development:
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental, geotechnical, and structural engineers, to ensure a comprehensive approach to project delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on strategic planning, resource management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Experience:
  • 7-15 years of experience in bridge engineering, with a strong background in project management and design.
  • Demonstrated success in managing bridge design and construction projects, including experience with public infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience managing project budgets, schedules, and teams.
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Procore) and engineering design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD Pro, LARSA).
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong project management skills, including resource management, risk assessment, and problem-solving.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of bridge design codes and industry standards (e.g., AASHTO, FHWA, local DOT guidelines).
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities, with a track record of leading teams to successful project completion.
  • Ability to perform technical reviews and approve project deliverables with attention to detail and quality.
  • Familiarity with construction practices and an understanding of the challenges involved in the field.
  • A commitment to safety, quality control, and environmental responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other digital engineering tools.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or similar project management credentials is a plus.
  • Experience with bridge inspection, evaluation, and rehabilitation projects.
