The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of building materials, best practices, building science, building codes, energy codes, etc. as well as have excellent communication skills, solid ethics, embrace teamwork, and have the ability to lead a team of employee carpenters and trade partners. Minimum Qualifications A minimum of five (5) years of residential construction experience working in a design-build, semi-custom, or custom home building company. A minimum of 2 years managing team members or trade contractors. Be able to read project specifications and construction plans. You WILL be tested on the depth of your knowledge of MN residential building and energy codes. Desired Qualifications Degree in construction management or similar field. Industry related certifications or attended trainings / continuing education. More years of experience than the minimum. Working in carpentry, framing homes, as a lead carpenter, etc. About the Position Primary responsibilities for this position are the minimum, and as a small company we take our responsibilities seriously – there isn’t always someone to back us up And, as a small company, sometimes we need to wear many hats. Stepping in when it’s not your job is a good indicator of whether you would be a good fit Work with all your design team members to collaborate on specific design details and field feasibilities. Compile and present reporting on project updates. Review construction plans and specs for any gaps, and generate questions, labor hours, and material take-offs. Prepare and manage the overall company production schedule, employee carpenter schedules/daily tasks, and make adjustments throughout construction to maintain schedules if at all possible. Complete or review/approve material take-offs, ordering, and delivery scheduling with entire team. Maintain quality control on all job sites, schedule inspections, and have accountability for passing inspections. Manage all communications with clients throughout construction, including daily reports, walk-throughs, etc. Track and document change orders. Follow up on service and/or warranty items, working with service team. Develop carpenter training/development plans and help find ways to provide training opportunities.
