TITLE: Student One on One Personal Care Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Idaho Registered License RN/LPN
- Ability to relate well with students, staff and parents
- Desire to assist students with special needs in a learning environment
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writitng
- Strong sense of teamwork, and the ability to work cooperatively with others
- Ability to take directions and work independently
- Willingness to perform various job-related duties as situations require
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
Special Services Director and Building Principal
JOB SUMMARY
To help specific student placed within program offered by Special Services.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to perform frequent oral, nasal and tracheostomy suctioning to maintain clear airways.
- Ability to perform tracheotomy adjustments
- Must be willing to receive training from the school nurse to be prepared to assist with emergency medical procedures
- Ability to maintain O2 at prescribed amount
- Ability to administer G-Tube feedings
- Ability to administer respiratory medications
- Ability to perform regular hygiene care
- Have the ability to safely transfer a student in a wheelchair
- Must provide monthly documentation of contact time for Medicaid billing
- Shadow student during the school day
- Read, understand and implement, under supervision of the Special Education Teacher, the Individualized Education Plan for the child(ren) you are assigned to
- Perform assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, recesses, and on field trips
- Maintain and demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and learning
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community
- Participate in in-service training programs as approved
- Maintain safe working environment and encourages colleagues to be safety-minded in the performance of all school-related duties
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate in on-on-one and small group situations to parents, students and other employees of the district.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to work in a friendly manner and to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements, Board policies, and applicable laws.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF WORK ENVIROMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly stands or walks, and occasionally sits and talks. The employee occasionally reaches with hands and arms, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. The employee regularly pushes items of 50 pounds such as children on a bike or in moving/rearranging furniture. While most duties are performed indoors, the employee may be required to perform duties on occasion outdoors in various types of weather, including inclement weather with temperatures at or below freezing for extended periods of time.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud at a standard acceptable level for this environment. When supervising students, the employee is responsible for their safety, well-being, and work output.
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the speech-language pathologist and/or the director of special education in conformance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position shall be considered in all respects "employment at will".
