We’re saving lives, building careers, and reimagining healthcare. We can’t wait to grow alongside you.

The Department of Ophthalmology at Tufts Medical Center (TMC) is actively seeking a full-time Retina Physician to join the New England Eye Center. This faculty position offers the best of both academic and private practice. The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to see patients at TMC in Boston; teach fellows, residents and medical students; participate in academic research; as well as provide care at our satellites and affiliated partners in nearby suburban, private practice locations. The Retina division at NEEC is a busy service and allows new faculty to quickly have their desired patient volume. The successful candidate must be board certified/board eligible in Ophthalmology, as well as possess excellent clinical and communication skills, have a strong interest in clinical education, and must qualify for a faculty appointment in the Tufts University School of Medicine.

Why join our team:

Our ophthalmologists are distinguished clinicians, educators and researchers who cover all angles of visual health, from routine to complex care. Together, we provide superb ophthalmic care for our patients by keeping up with the latest advances in Ophthalmology.

Our department features innovative ophthalmic technology to complement our doctors' expertise, putting us on par with the most advanced eye centers anywhere. We facilitate over 90,000 ambulatory care visits a year and perform over 8,000 surgeries a year, providing diagnosis and treatment in all subspecialties of Ophthalmology including cataracts, corneal disorders, refractive disorders, glaucoma, oculofacial plastic and orbital disorders, and vitreoretinal disorders. Diagnosis and monitoring of treatment are facilitated by over 70+ state of the art, ophthalmic specific devices.

How you’ll transform patient care:

The Department of Ophthalmology has a strong research lineup, encompassing lab-based projects explored in the Vision Research Laboratory, clinical research funded by the National Eye Institute and clinical trials across multiple subspecialties within our department.

Our brightest minds have been instrumental in many of the advances in Ophthalmology. For the past few decades, we have been involved in many other industry- and NIH-sponsored studies of the most exciting recent advances in ocular therapeutics in:

  • Age-related macular degeneration
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Retinal vein occlusion
  • Uveal melanoma

Perhaps most notably, since the early 1990’s, our department has been at the forefront of ophthalmic imaging research. In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), we were involved in developing the revolutionary ocular imaging technology known as optical coherence tomography (OCT). The MIT partnership continues to this day with continued advancement of the technology.

Who you are:

  • Board certified or board eligible in Ophthalmology
  • Fellowship trained in medical or surgical retina
  • Passionate and interested in building a busy clinical practice with an interest in teaching.
  • Ability to obtain a Massachusetts medical license

Work, Live, and Grow: As an employee of Tufts Medical Center Physician Organization you will receive:
